Michael Wayne Hall & Heather Sundquist Hall
Featured Artists — Austin Studio Tour 2025
Through distinct yet deeply connected practices, Michael and Heather Hall offer work that speaks to rhythm, memory, and the quiet beauty woven through their process.
🎨 Michael Wayne Hall uses painting as a meditative practice. His work is always created by hand — colors individually mixed and remixed, applied without the use of tape or masking, allowing wobbles, smudges, and other human gestures to remain. While each piece feels measured and exact, a closer look reveals the handmade nature of his process. Grounded in his love of vintage screenprints and flat-color design, Michael’s abstract paintings use methodically blended gradients to suggest movement, transition, and depth. The result is work that feels both familiar and modern — simultaneously calming and energizing.
🎨 Heather Sundquist Hall works primarily in gouache, using her subjects as a means to preserve fleeting memories — like souvenirs collected along a road trip. Having lived in Texas for over a decade, Heather draws inspiration from the vast terrain and awe-striking skies of the romantic Southwest. Her transient landscapes often contrast with discarded objects and subtle domestic details — a floral curtain, a plaid couch from her grandmother’s house in November 1986. These recognizable fragments invite viewers to pause and return to their own stories, rediscovering the magic in the everyday and the often overlooked.
Together, their practices form a dialogue between precision and nostalgia, process and poetry — a shared space where art becomes an act of reflection.
