The Baron's Men

Creating historical theatre in an historic setting since 1999.

The Baron’s Men is a Resident Repertory not-for-profit community theatre that presents plays that fit the time and style of ancient Greece to 1650, that are staged and costumed in a manner that is as historically accurate as possible. We aim to provide educational elements in all aspects of production that prove the work is still relevant, interesting, and engaging to modern audiences. Our first full-length production was Much Ado About Nothing in the fall of 2002, and we have maintained a continued presence in the Austin area theatre scene since. Our home for 20 years, The Curtain Theater, was a scale replica of Shakespeare's original Globe Theater.

Join us for The Great Austin Shake Off on August 22 at Austin Scottish Rite Theater!

Austin's three prominent Shakespeare companies -- us, Walking Shadow Shakespeare Project, and Austin Shakespeare -- are coming together for a night of wholesome competition!

Each company will nominate three actors to perform a speech of their choice across three rounds: Comedy, History, and Tragedy. After each round, the audience will vote with their dollars to choose a winner. To cap off the event, a leader from each organization will perform Hamlet’s “To Be Or Not To Be” as a final round, and an overall champion will be crowned.
