After three months, I want to share My Birth Story. 💗
It’s 11 p.m., an hour from my 39th week of pregnancy. My contractions started, and they felt like really strong cramps. I tried to rest, showered in the morning, and ate breakfast. I rocked on my yoga ball. I packed my makeup and skincare, and I didn’t touch either until after she was born. Lol The snacks we brought and the Frida Mom nursing gown, grip socks, healing foam, and cooling liners came in handy. The hospital provided pads, underwear, witch hazel, a perineal water bottle, and ice packs for healing.
At 5 p.m. the next day, my contractions were five minutes apart, so we went to the hospital. The nurse said my water had broken and asked if I knew what time. I had no idea that happened. They admitted me and monitored my blood pressure & contractions and Isla’s heart rate.
Went into active labor the next morning. Our nurse said I was 10 cm dilated, so I pushed on the squat bar on my bed. The head nurse came in and said I wasn’t actually fully dilated. She suggested pitocin to speed up the process to lower any risk of Isla or me getting an infection. I agreed to pitocin and an epidural, since I knew the contractions would become stronger.
Once the epidural hit, it was a huge relief to not feel the contractions and nap for a few hours. Hadn’t slept much the entire labor and hadn’t eaten that day. Then, it was time! After less than an hour of pushing, she arrived that night. 💗 Healthy and infection-free. I had second degree tears that were stitched up by my doctor. We stayed a few nights at the hospital, and the nurses checked on us every few hours. A lactation consultant came by, too.
Labor and delivery was an experience that is hard to describe! During my third trimester, I was afraid of how it would be. It was tough, and I am proud of myself for birthing our baby Isla. My body is strong and created, carried, and brought beautiful life into this world. 💗
