This wasn’t on my bingo card for the year, and I didn’t think much of it until I opened the package today and almost started weeping.

Who would think my art would one day be sent out as part of a special edition run for a book?

I’m so proud of my art business, and so so grateful to all of you for your support and love. Your support has led to where I am today, and where I’ll go in the future. Thanks for cheering on my crazy art dreams. šŸ«¶šŸ»

All the cliche mushy stuff aside, if you want to check out a book that will probably also make me cry, go to CB Woods and reademrae for their limited edition copy of Fine Fine Fine and you can get your own quote print of the sunflowers with it:)

Now I have to come up with the other 46 uses for a makeup brush hehe.

Seriously though I’m so glad this crazy idea worked, and I’m glad huge makeup brushes exist out there on the internet.

Not a very aesthetic picture, but I’m celebrating tonight! šŸ¾ After 2 months of delayed foundation repairs and my studio being torn up that whole time, it feels good to have my space (and my flooring!) back.

My studio looks very different than it did before the repairs - I’m leaning much more minimalist and even studied a bit of feng shui (I tried going deeper into feng shui but it got very intense very quick so I kept to surface-level recommendations 😶), and the space feels much better than it did before.

I wish I had a before picture - I’ve realized I’m very bad capturing moments. But hey, at least I captured this one!

Everyone, meet Bear, otherwise known as the Pooky Boogus 🐻 he’s one of my partners in crime and shares the responsibility of checking on me with his sister, Annabelle (they actually both win this award). He’s a frequent visitor to my studio, particularly when he’s hungry and needs treat snackies.

I couldn’t resist…

After finishing this commission of a gorgeous field of sunflowers, I just had to take it to a field nearby and get some shots among my own local sunflowers. Kudos to my husband for his mad photography skills šŸ“ø

I’m not an abstract painter, but I understand the appeal every time I finish a piece and look at the paint stains on my paper towels. It’s like they capture the journey of the piece. I’ve thought several times about somehow incorporating the stained paper towels into the final presentation of the piece, but havent quite figured it out yet. If anyone has suggestions, pleaasseee let me know!

I was on a road trip with a family that I’d met less than a month before, driving through the beautiful hills and meadows of Slovenia. Turning a corner along a mountain drive, this church came into view, perched elegantly on the glacial Lake Bled.

I recently discovered that Lake Bled is a prime health and wellness travel destination, with many spa resorts hugging the shore. In fact, people have been travelling here since the 1600s to bathe in its thermal springs and seek healing.

Back when I visited, we only stopped for lunch and a walk around the shore. I really look forward to going back one day and catching a boat to that famous church on the lake.

Rating my experience in Provo, Utah

Shockingly, I’m giving this place a 10/10 as a travelling artist. I wasn’t expecting this.

Why?

1. Because the easiest places to set up and paint are usually coffee shops. I assumed there would be no coffee shops going in (Provo is the home of BYU, after all, so I assumed there was no market for coffee). I was completely wrong, there were SO many coffee shops and I only tried 2 while I was there ~ I really want to go back and try them all.

2. Provo was extremely walkable. I stayed with some friends who were a 10 minute walk from downtown, with sidewalks all along the way. Downtown itself was extremely walkable. This is HUGE for a small U.S. city.

3. The staff at Enliten Bakery and Guru’s Cafe were extremely accommodating and kept coming out to check on me. I always worry a little about being allowed to paint, but that was never a concern here.

3. I got several compliments from passers-by ~ Mormons (and ex-Mormons) truly are some of the nicest people.

4. The weather in June was a bit hot and dry, but much nicer than Austin, TX and I could actually sit outside (under an umbrella) to paint for several hours without worrying about the temps.

Have you ever been to Provo? What did you think of it?

Last July I asked people to comment a photo and I’d pick one to paint in my sketchbook. Was scrolling through old photos today and this was such a fun throwback to that day:)

Painting this scene helped cement in my head that I want to paint destination-based art, but it took a year for me to really commit and leave behind the animal and nature-focused art that I’m more comfortable painting.

Yesterday was my birthday, so I’ve been reflecting on how far I’ve come in life; how I’m finally settling into something that brings me joy and fulfillment; and I want to cheers to many more travels and paintings in the years to come!

Texas is a lot of things, but one of the surprising things when I first moved here was how peaceful it could be. Standing in a field of wildflowers and looking out at the big blue sky, it’s easy to leave the world behind and just enjoy the moment.

Lia asked me for something Texas-themed, and BIG (of course, everything’s bigger in Texas). So how could I not include some longhorns, a water tower, and native flowers? The big blue sky takes me back to just how peaceful this state can be, and it reminds me again why so many people love Texas.

If this piece speaks Texan peace to you, I still have the smaller tester pieces ~ let me know if you’re interested in them. 😌
