Today Girl Guitar is remembering and celebrating Dolly PartonāœØ
Not only for the extraordinary musician, songwriter and performer she was, but for the doors she kicked down for women along the way. šŸ’—

Itā€™s hard to imagine the opportunities women have in music today without women like Dolly who came before us and made those opportunities possible.

And while the rhinestones, big hair and larger-than-life personality made her unmistakably Dolly, there was an incredibly smart, driven businesswoman behind all that glitter. She understood her worth. She owned her voice, built an empire, made bold decisions and showed generations of women that you never have to choose between being feminine and being formidable.

For a community like Girl Guitar, built around giving women and girls a place to learn, play, perform and find their own voices through music, her legacy feels especially meaningful.

Dolly showed us what can happen when a woman refuses to make herself smaller.

Thank you for the songs. Thank you for the example. And most of all, thank you for helping kick those doors open so the rest of us could walk through them.
