Let us tell you a story.⁠

On opposite sides of the Milky Way live two souls who long to be together. Lanterns fill the sky. A mysterious flock of birds builds a bridge across the galaxy. And for one magical night, they are reunited.⁠
⁠
Told through dance, animation, and light, The Seventh Night Sky is a Vietnamese legend brought to life on stage. It is an adventure through the stars for the whole family, and a reminder that the people we love can always remain close in our hearts.⁠

It is with heavy hearts that Ballet Austin shares the news of the passing of Joe Long. From Artistic Director Stephen Mills:

"With the passing of Joe Long, Austin loses a truly consequential community leader. Along with his wife, Teresa Lozano Long, Joe leaves a lasting legacy of philanthropy in the arts and education. Through their dedication, Austin’s nonprofit performing arts organizations have a permanent performance home in the Joe R & Teresa Lozano Long Cetner for the Performing Arts. We are grateful."

We send our deepest sympathy to the Long family during this difficult time.

Happy World Ballet Pianist Day! 🎹✨

One of our favorite things about Ballet Austin? As you walk through our hallways at any given time of day, there’s a possibility you’ll hear live piano floating through the air. Today, we celebrate the extraordinary pianists who bring so much beauty and soul to our studios every single day.

We asked our Pianist Manager, Rob Greenfield, to play a few notes and share a few words:

“Here at Ballet Austin, we are extremely lucky that our Executive Leadership realizes the importance of and supports the ongoing use of live piano accompanists for ballet classes. The pianists here accompany classes for the Artistic Department of course, but also for the Academy and BCDF.

On this World Ballet Pianist Day, I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this organization. This is my 12th year here accompanying classes, and my fourth since additionally taking over as the Pianist Manager. The journey so far has been full of life and learning. A special personal joy for me is watching my daughter rise up through the levels of the Academy under the guidance of our wonderful instructors.

Dance, music, joy, and community are alive here at Ballet Austin, and it’s a pleasure to be a part of it.”

Thank you, Rob, and to all of our incredible pianists. The music you bring to our studios every day means more than words can say. 🎶

Originally from Puerto Rico, Dianetzy trained at Escuela Julian E. Blanco, Conservatorio de Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico, and Escuela de Danza de Siglo 21 before being accepted to the School of American Ballet in 2016.⁠

Since joining Ballet Austin in 2019, Dianetzy has captivated audiences in an extraordinary range of roles including Juliet in Stephen Mills' Romeo & Juliet, Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty, Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker, Marie in MARIE ANTOINETTE: Vampire Queen of Versailles, and most recently, Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream.⁠

From colorful festival-goers to graceful birds soaring across the Milky Way, the costumes of The Seventh Night Sky are as magical as the story they tell.

The Seventh Night Sky is an exciting new work choreographed by Thang Dao, featuring the dancers of Ballet Austin TWO. This imaginative performance is commissioned by The Bancroft Initiative / Clara & Paul Bancroft as part of Ballet Austin’s "Fables of the World" series, which takes families around the globe through dance, music, and storytelling.⁠

Meet the creator of The Seventh Night Sky. 🌠

Vietnamese-born choreographer Thang Dao brings his cultural heritage and artistic vision to this magical all-ages ballet, created especially for young audiences and families.

In his own words:

“For me, The Seventh Night Sky is ultimately about connections across impossible distances. Maybe those distances aren’t as permanent as we think. Maybe somewhere somehow there’s always a bridge being built — and maybe we are the ones building it.”
