The straitjacket became world famous when early 20th century escape artists transformed it into a public spectacle. Now it lives right here in our museum collection.

For Black History Month, we’re spotlighting our own, John Magic! The man behind Magic’s Theater & Museum. John first fell in love with magic as a teenager after seeing a Black magician perform; a moment that showed him what was possible and stuck with him for life. He has spent more than 40 years mastering sleight of hand and illusion.
Decades later, he’s still sharing that same sense of wonder through close-up magic, history, and an intimate 18-seat theater right here in the Hill Country.
Join us in celebrating the creativity and legacy he shares with the Austin community and beyond.

Don't miss out on our next Jazz Night this Friday! It's a special night of magic and jazz that we are now hosting every month. We've been getting really great feedback from jazz lovers across town and are really excited be featuring local musicians. This Friday we will have the Erik Telford Collective. They'll be playing a variety of familiar tunes as well as original compositions paying homage to the rich tradition of jazz.
