4.) A junk sheet used for color swatch testing

5.) On the press at 33x speed

6.) Printing a cropped element of the image into a Serio Press History Book, one of the systems we have for keeping an archive of every project we print.

7.) Light to dark!

8.) An inked screen mid print season

9.) Washing the emulsion off a screen after exposure, and prepping it for print.

10.) A pass of the squeegee

11.) Video of the final color being printed

12.) Closeup after the final color is printed

13.) Transparencies on the drying racks

14.) Closing thoughts

We are immensely happy about our newest serigraph edition, made in collaboration with and exhibited at in “Felipe Baeza: Anima.”

Available at the link in bio, this is a print that demands to be touched as well as seen. Exploring themes of identity, surface, and body; the edition included several “firsts” for us throughout the printmaking process.

Honestly, we had no idea how things would turn out during certain stages! Printing on top of all that texture was a bit scary at first. The results exceeded our expectations. Thank you Felipe for trusting us and for your willingness to experiment. Making these prints was a lot of fun, and we’re grateful that so many people got to see it in person at Print Center New York.

Archives are an important part of printmaking, and each studio will have different ways in which they keep a record of their prints.

We employ a few methods for such, but our favorite is probably the history books. Every single edition that gets printed at Serio Press is also, in a cropped format, printed into these books. A permanent guide of colors, layers, and textures to all of our printmaking projects is consolidated into easy-to-reference books. If you’re a printer feel free to share how you document editions. It’s always interesting hearing or seeing how other folks do things. If there are other elements of the process or studio you want to know about - leave a question in comments and we’ll do our best to answer.

Game. Set. Proof. 🎾🥊 familiarizing ourselves with the color and value of .dxn + before some new prints get underway.

Digital prints are useful guides, but dialogue with the artist over how color gets communicated is paramount when reproducing an existing work. Sometimes we want to replicate the original as closely as possible and in other examples we may lean into the functionalities/possibilities of printmaking to create something inspired, but also entirely new.

Serio Press is incredibly pleased to announce a forthcoming edition with artist . Swipe ⬅️ for a look into her mind.

In an increasingly polarized world, Hein Koh explores dualities but is in no way limited by them. Koh’s art is a similar experience to watching one of Alfred Hitchcock’s films; a psychological thriller that leaves you questioning the human condition. Dark humor eases the pain of existence and we find ourselves relating to both the joyful and the tragic. Soft sculptures, paintings and ceramics all probe into the undesirable parts of ourselves that we don’t want to look at… and the strength that we find on the other side of that journey.

Our collaboration marks the artist’s first foray into traditional printmaking and her debut serigraph edition.

Use the link in our bio if you would like to register interest and we will get in touch with you before the print becomes available to the public (and keep you up to date on any future projects with Koh).

“Circulo de Amigos” by Carlos Rodríguez explores clay as a printing medium. Clay from five different regions across Mexico (Oaxaca, Sonora, Hidalgo, Zacatecas, and Tonalá), each brings its own distinctive color, mineral composition and texture.

Clay was shipped to our studio in the form of sun dried sculptures since it can’t be shipped raw across international borders. Upon arrival, we ground the sculptures into pigment, and used it to create five different clay inks.

Used to color the five figures in the artwork, the clay inks impart a natural, sandy texture and a beautiful range of earthen colors.

It was so much fun to produce an edition that utilizes printmaking and ceramics in a new synergistic way. Learn more about this and other editions we’ve created with at the link in bio.
