I like these photos because I look weird lol 🤓

Happy National Poetry Month y’all! I hope to see your faces tomorrow. This will probably be the last every.Word Open Mic I host for a good little bit. I’m making space for other poets to shine, focusing on building The Poet House infrastructure/operations, planning for 2027, and supporting the Courageous Cadence youth.

Most importantly, I’m making my mental and developmental health a priority as I have been in the process of working a new job, mending relationships where possible, going to therapy, and getting an AuDHD diagnosis.

Oh and I’ve changed my pronouns to she/they. I’m non-binary. I’m pansexual. Always have been. I just make time and space for myself to name myself. Not a huge fan of labels (I’m just Jasmine), but I understand their use in this world. I don’t like negotiating my gender and sexuality so I’ll be taking positive affirmations only. 😌✨

I’m still outside! I’m definitely still taking gigs and making appearances! I just want to be an everyday community member, showing up, popping out, and meeting new people. 😇✨

And if you made it this far you should know I’m finalizing my poetry manuscript, Something In Me About the Ground, for a big publication push. This would be my second book! Send me all the opportunities! I plan to make some really fun art with this one.

I’ve got grown woman dreams and I’m doing everything I can to actualize them. Much love always. 💗✨

I’m writing. I’m writing when no one knows I’m writing. And I’m dreaming. I’m dreaming of a time where the only thing I do is write. Write more than I speak. And the only way one could know me is if they were willing to read.

My very first year in Austin, I was working as an English tutor for Literacy First () at Brooke Elementary, teaching K-2nd graders how to read. At Tomorrow’s Promise Foundation’s () Behind the Bars Panel, I ran into Ms. Fowler and her son Javon. Y’all Javon was one of my students and my very best reader 😭🥹💗✨ He was my favorite student and now he’s in the 8th grade! Time flies I can’t believe I’m getting old. 😵‍💫💗✨

I don’t conflate purpose with productivity. Don’t call exhaustion devotion. Don’t confuse movement with motion, and I never apologize for taking a breath.

When we do shows like Lines for Liberation, they take over your life. My mind has been on my purpose. This production transformed me. It made me believe in myself again. Believe in others. Trust. Love—got damnit might I propose unconditionally? This show just didn’t make me a better artist; it made me a better person. And I am so grateful to every single person who stepped up and contributed to this production. Sometimes a feat like this just doesn’t seem possible, but it is executed by a team who has a shared vision for the future of The Poet House (). I am so grateful to everyone. And I am proud of me for continuing to discover my own story. To allow myself to live in it while it’s happening and accept the push to imagine what a life of peace could look like. Here’s to liberation for all—from social and political systems, from the perceptions of others, from the limitations we put on ourselves. Know that who we all are on the inside, is so much greater than anything we are made to be in this lifetime. Much love always, Jasmine 💗✨

Hey y’all! I need y’all to go to my story and drop some words so I can write a poem by Friday for The Poetry Potluck () with Kelsey Bigelow () and The Negro Artist ().

Then join us live on Friday when we share what we created. I’m hungry for some syntax, so give us words that are going to stretch us and make us better poets. See y’all Friday! 💁🏽‍♀️💗✨

So what y’all do for Valentine’s Day? I had a date with poetry 🤭💗✨
