As many Austin schools dismiss for summer today, that means the final bell rings on this year’s Paramount Education Story Wranglers program ✏️🎭🎶

Over the last nine months, third graders across Central Texas filled journals with wild ideas, hilarious characters, heartfelt stories, and BIG imaginations. This year, Story Wranglers reached 15 schools, 56 classrooms, 1,047 student writers through both English and bilingual programming, and was brought to life by 55 dedicated Story Wrangler performers + 39 teaching artists who worked tirelessly to turn student ideas into full productions for the entire school to enjoy.

Story Wranglers is about more than creative writing – it’s about confidence, self-expression, collaboration, awe, wonder, and helping students realize their ideas matter.

To every student, teacher, teaching artist, actor, musician, and school that made this year so special: thank you for dreaming big with us. And always remember: Adventure is… out there! See you next year.

One Last Call before the curtain falls! 🚨🥂 We’re opening our doors on Monday, June 15th for an extended happy hour from 4-8pm for one final evening before the Paramount Theatre closes for our 11-month restoration project!

Walk the 110-year-old theatre one more time, grab a drink with throwback happy hour prices, explore pieces of Paramount history, and see one of the theatre’s rarest hidden treasures unfurled: the original 1915 hand-painted fire curtain, believed to be one of the oldest surviving original fire curtains in the country.

Whether the Paramount has been part of your life for decades or you’ve somehow never stepped inside, this is your chance to say goodbye (for now) to one of Austin’s most beloved spaces before the Shine On restoration begins.

🎟️ Free with RSVP: austintheatre.org/lastcall

🗞️ ICYMI: During the 11-month closure, the Paramount team will still be putting on events at the State Theatre, as well as other venues around town with shows already announced at Hogg Memorial Auditorium on the UT campus, the AISD Performing Arts Center in Mueller, Radio East, and the Bullock Museum IMAX Theatre.

John Sayles invites you to return to the scene of the crime in LONE STAR (1996) screening in 35mm on June 1st in the Summer Classic Film Series 🎥 Here's a sneak peek of the preshow reel of interviews with Sayles and stars Chris Cooper and Ron Canada discussing the making of the film, courtesy of our friends at Texas Archive of the Moving Image.

A skeleton in the desert, a town haunted by its own history, a mystery that only gets deeper in the Texas heat. With an unforgettable ensemble cast, an evocative soundtrack, and the dusty tension of small-town border life, LONE STAR remains one of the great modern Texas films which is why we HAD to program it during our “Shot in Texas” theme.

IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE (2000) screens in the Summer Classic Film Series on Sunday, May 31st in partnership with Austin Asian American Film Festival📽️

“IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE is a story about two people, and it could easily have been very boring. But instead of treating it as a love story, I decided to approach it like a thriller, like a suspense movie.” – Director Wong Kar-wai

With its aching musical soundtrack and exquisitely abstract cinematography by Christopher Doyle and Mark Lee Ping-bin, this film has been a major stylistic influence on the past decade of cinema and is a milestone in Wong’s redoubtable career.

Oh shii…take mushrooms 😎 Austin fully tapped back into its inner kid this weekend as the Paramount packed out for a 25th anniversary screening of SPY KIDS with Robert Rodriguez in the house. Even cooler, some of the kids who grew up on the movie brought their own kids this time around, and Robert kept the nostalgia going with live performances of songs from the film alongside his Family Spy Band.

We’re celebrating Miles Davis’ 100th birthday by looking back at this ad for his February 4, 1983 performance at the Paramount Theatre. A true innovator who changed the sound of jazz again and again, Miles left his mark on music history and on our stage 🎺
