Buena Vista Social Orchestra
Buena Vista Social Orchestra takes over the Paramount for two big nights THIS WEEK!
The Buena Vista Social Club was born from a desire to revive the golden age of Cuban music. In the 1940s, the original club in Havana was a hotspot for musicians and dancers. By the 1990s, the traditional sounds of cubano, bolero, and danzón were fading. That’s when a group of talented, yet forgotten, Cuban musicians came together to record the now-iconic 1997 album, Buena Vista Social Club, which captivated audiences around the world. The music sparked a global revival of interest in Cuban culture, leading to sold-out performances worldwide and cementing their place as a symbol of timeless Cuban music.
In 2024, original orchestra leader, composer and trombonist Jesus “Aguaje” Ramos convened the Buena Vista Social Orchestra to continue the legacy of the legendary group with an exciting new stage production and a repertoire pulled from their greatest hits (many of which he composed). The ensemble also includes original BVSC members "Betun" Luis Mariano Valiente Marin (congas, bongo), Emilio Senon Morales Ruiz (piano) and Fabían Garcia (bass).
To date, The Buena Vista Social Club and related projects have global sales that stand at over fifty million, making it the biggest-selling Cuban music project in history. As one critic put it, Buena Vista has become “world music’s equivalent of The Dark Side of the Moon.” Their story is one of rediscovery, cultural pride, and the enduring power of traditional music.
Their first show at the Paramount is SOLD OUT, but you can still grab tickets to the second show on Thursday, October 3rd.

Pay to get in, pray to get out 🍿 POPCORN (1991) screens October 15th at Panic at the Paramount!
What could be scarier than an all-night “Horrorthon”? A loving homage to ’50s/’60s B-movies (the trio of flicks shown at the Horrorthon all have accompanying William Castle-style gimmicks), POPCORN is also an insanely fun horror/comedy in its own right, celebrating the joys of old-fashioned creature features and ’80s-style stalk-and-slay.
🎫 This film is a double feature with DEMONS (1985). One ticket gets you into both films: https://bit.ly/3ZprzIx
When Friday, September 27 rolls around, mamas WILL dance and daddies WILL rock and roll - because Jim Messina is in the building! 🎸
A true pioneer of the AM radio era, Jim Messina's musical journey has left an indelible mark on the industry for over FIVE decades. From his early days with Buffalo Springfield and Poco to his legendary partnership with Kenny Loggins in Loggins & Messina, Jim was a big part of hit after hit, including "Your Mama Don't Dance," "Danny’s Song," and "For What It’s Worth."
Born and raised in Texas, Messina picked up the guitar at just five years old, inspired by the music of Elvis Presley and Ricky Nelson. He went on to shape the sound of a generation with Buffalo Springfield. After the band’s breakup, he co-founded Poco, pioneering the Country-Rock genre and influencing so many artists still in vogue today. His next chapter saw him team up with Kenny Loggins, creating one of the most iconic duos of the '70s.
Now, behind a vibrant solo career and his latest release “In the Groove,” Jim continues to celebrate the best of his past, present, and future, blending iconic tracks from every era of his life with solo material. The tale of a resourceful young witch who uses her broom to create a delivery service, only to lose her gift of flight in a moment of self-doubt took much inspiration from Sweden for the setting of the film. Hayao Miyazaki used photographs he took of Stockholm and Visby to form the basis of the fictional city of Koriko.
