Antone's Austin's Home of the Blues for 50 years (and counting).

Established in 1975 by the late Clifford Antone, Antone’s is an iconic blues venue located in downtown Austin. Over the past 45 years, Antone’s has brought Austin a variety of blues and R&B musicians from across the country including B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, Ray Charles, and James Brown, and helped develop local talent like Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Bob Schneider,

Gary Clark Jr., and others. In 2015, the historic brand was restored and a new team brought the iconic venue back to the downtown Austin landscape with a renewed focus on once again making Antone’s the “Home of the Blues.”

Join us in wishing the happiest of birthdays to the legendary Mike Buck! Buck has been around Antone’s since the beginning, and there could be no one more fitting to be running Antone’s Record Shop than him.

The founding drummer of FABULOUS THUNDERBIRDS, Buck played skins on their first two albums before forming the LeRoi Brothers and playing with Doug Sahm, Roky Erickson, Eve & the Exiles, T. Tex Edwards, Toni Price, Johnny Reno, Mystic Knights of the Sea, and about two dozen more bands that were too hip, ahead-of-their-time, or weird for the average Austinite to know about.

Mike is one of the coolest people in the history of Austin, and we consider ourselves lucky to call him a friend! Can't wait to hear your signature sound with Eve Monsees at the Gary Clark Jr show tomorrow night.

On this day in 1980, the band was jumping, the people too. Ray Charles did four encores and more than two and a half hours of music at his one and only appearance at Antone’s.

This first photo is by Kurt Siegfried, a bartender at the time, while the iconic poster in the second photo was created by Danny Garrett, who had this to say about the gig:

"The June 13 performance, which occurred just a month before the club's fifth anniversary, placed 'Austin's Home of the Blues' alongside the Armadillo World Headquarters—at this time halfway through its last year as Austin's premiere music showcases—as the only two private venues in town that were capable of booking and staging a show of this caliber; bringing the hall a general international renown it had already enjoyed for years among blues fans and musicians."

Dallas soul icon Bobby Patterson returns to Antone's on July 3 for his first show in Austin in nearly a decade!

A king of the Dallas club scene when future Antone's stalwarts like Derek O'Brien, Denny Freeman, The Vaughan Brothers and Paul Ray were just teenagers, BP went on to be a successful performer, songwriter and A&R man for Shreveport's Jewel / Paula Records in the late 60s and 70s. Bobby's songs were covered by Fontella Bass, Albert King, Little Johnny Taylor and so many others, with one of his most notable cover versions being ""How Do You Spell Love?"" by the Fabulous Thunderbirds on their T-Bird Rhythm LP.
