Walking Shadow Shakespeare Project

Walking Shadow Shakespeare Project Shakespearean productions and workshops for the 21st Century actor, audience, and student!

Founded in 2011, the mission of Walking Shadow Shakespeare Project is to unite classical texts with a contemporary community through innovative and accessible productions, social events, and educational opportunities. We want every actor - regardless of race, gender, or ability - to feel the power that can come from living these characters on stage. We want them to get to be swept up in the poetry

, the romance, and the magic without being alienated by language representative of a 16th century mindset.

Our 8 year retro of one rehearsal shows comes to a close with 2025’s Henry 6.1.

We moved to Pease Park and had a massive cast of 34 actors bringing this history to life. They came from all over the US, ranged in age from 7 to over 70, and put on a stunning show.

It was hot, it was sweaty, and it was amazing.

Tonight we are back at Pease Park for 7pm to give y’all the latest!!!

2024: Troilus & Cressida

Firmly in my ‘daddy I can fix him’ era, we did a cheeky lil rewrite of the ending to this play and it was so beautiful, so powerful, so full of love and action.

This is the year we outgrew a small park venue, affirming how desperately people want, need, and deserve free theatre.

2023: we moved the one rehearsal show to Austin and did my fav play: Cymbeline. What a joy this was: new friends, new faces, same chaos.

This fairy tale was really special, and affirmed how special Austin can be for making art.

Did you know that Walking Shadow Shakespeare Project sometimes does single rehearsal performances?

It gives actors & crew with busy or nontraditional schedules the opportunity to participate in something they love! Come see Coriolano:A Texan Tragedy on SUNDAY MAY 24th at 7 pm @ Pease Park!

2021: another zoom show, this time The Winter’s Tale!

This cast had actors representing several US states, Canada, and England!

This cast was amazing and the show was beautiful - it was a really special send off from digital theatre for us.

We were meant to perform Troilus & Cressida in RI in 2020. We had made some amazing friends in Austin who were going to travel out for the show, but for obvious reasons that didn’t happen.

We did get the group together to perform live on zoom though, and it was so amazing to get to see them still perform.

Massive congratulations to everyone nominated for the Austin Critics Table Awards!

We are so proud of the work we've been doing, and honored to be named alongside such incredible Central TX talent.

Special shout out today to our Caesar + Antony + Cleopatra nominees:

Cody R. Arn - scenic design
Laura D'Eramo - lead actor
Andrew Solis - movement design
Pablo Muñoz-Evers - supporting actor
Stephanie Crugnola - director of a play

The team for this show was next level - it felt like lightning in a bottle and will stay in my heart forever. I'm incredibly grateful for so many of them to be recognized for their work.

Sending up the Bard signal!

Our park show is less than two (!!!) weeks away, and we’re in need of some volunteers as well as pieces to make 1830s Texas come to life!

Many hands make light work, as they say, so we’re looking for those hands to help us set up and break down in Pease Park. There will be plenty to do, from hanging the curtain, to filling coolers, to unloading the truck, to laying out the stage, and more. Link in bio!

Additionally, we’re looking for some things to help make the setting of this show come to life. Below is a little snapshot of the style of objects we’re looking for - specifically, Spanish quilts, flags, and a flag pole.

If you have any of these items (or anything you think might fit the vibe!) and would be willing to lend them to us for the weekend, we would be super grateful! Send us a dm and let us know, and we can come pick up whenever is convenient for you.
