For 21 years, Company Chaddick turned out “full-bodied and gorgeously phrased choreography” (SF Bay Guardian) to the delight and satisfaction of Bay Area audiences. Company Chaddick has forged a movement style characterized by “splendid partnering, fluidity, and generosity of spirit” (SF Chronicle), that is principally based on the Artistic Director’s freedom, energy and playfulness, and imbued wi
th emotional resonance that offers new insight into the human condition. Grounded in Cheryl Chaddick‘s work are themes of identity and personal truths. Her work reflects the inner conflicts that come from the creation of oneself and/or a desired image. Drawing from family, work, relationships, spiritual quests, and cultural influences, the heart of Company Chaddick‘s work is the desire to find the human element amidst growing isolation and a loss of individual distinction, a by-product of living in our technological age. A common thread in Cheryl Chaddick’s choreography has consistently been our deteriorating ability to connect and to have empathy for one another, and the dehumanization of society as a whole. Chaddick believes it is increasingly important and necessary for us to tell our many stories, and to teach, impact, cause to question, and inspire (breathe life into) the hearts and minds of others through the arts. Company Chaddick created and performed for two decades throughout the entire state of California. In 2007 Cheryl Chaddick returned to Texas, to live in Austin. In Chaddick Dance Theater’s 2008 production, “Second Wind”, American-Statesman and the Austin Chronicle received two nominations for her dancers in “best dancer award” category from the Austin Critics’ Table. She has renamed her company Chaddick Dance Theater to mark the start of a new chapter in her creative life.
