✊🏾❤️ Happy Juneteenth from The Grapevine Talk!
Today, we celebrate freedom, resilience, culture, and community. While the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, many people don’t know that it took more than two years for news of freedom to reach enslaved people in Texas. On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston and announced that enslaved people were free, which we now celebrate as Juneteenth.
Here in Austin, we’re proud to celebrate alongside our community. Get out, support local events, learn something new, connect with your neighbors, and honor the generations who fought and persevered for the freedoms we enjoy today.
And don’t forget to tune in to The Grapevine Talk this Friday at 12 PM on KAZI 88.7 FM for conversations that matter to our community and special Juneteenth giveaways!
