An invitation to linger in the quiet space where material, process, and domestic ritual converge.

This Saturday, Ender Martos hosts Summer Vessel, a one-day open studio gathering featuring guest artists Steef Crombach and Moses Tsai. Conceived as a seasonal pause, the afternoon offers an intimate look into two distinct practices that interrogate the intimate boundaries of cultural memory and daily life.

Moses Tsai presents ceramic works that reimagine functional pottery as tactile sites of quiet connection. Grounded in a rigorous commitment to utility and shaped by the nuanced scrutiny of familial heritage, his vessels—balanced precisely to the hand, lip, and table—elevate the humble implements of everyday dining into enduring objects of sensory awareness.

Alongside Tsai, Steef Crombach shares fabric paintings and sculptures that surface the overlooked fragments of our shared visual landscape. Merging her Dutch frame of reference with Texan craft vernacular, Crombach manipulates pattern, volume, and unconventional textiles to uncover buried points of collective memory and capture the intangible nature of cultural transformation.

There is a particular, fleeting quality to an artist’s studio on an August afternoon in East Austin—a heavy, suspended light that seems to make every object in the room hold its breath.

Before work is framed, categorized, or absorbed by the machinery of the market, it exists in a state of quiet vulnerability. It is still becoming. This Saturday, for three short hours, that process is left exposed.

The Summer Vessel brings together Steef Crombach and Asin Allavudeen as guest artists inside Ender Martos’ space at Canopy. To walk into Studio #224 during these hours is not to visit an exhibition in the traditional sense; it is an invitation to witness a alignment of distinct ways of seeing. Crombach’s subtle, tactile surface interventions and Allavudeen’s delicate conceptual architecture do not demand your attention—they reward it.

In a moment defined by relentless momentum, there is a rare, steadying pleasure in standing in a room with objects that ask only for your presence. To feel the low, communal hum of people looking together, without urgency, without expectation.
