We are once again partnering with ColdTowne Theater for First Three Pages, Live! A talented troop of performers will be reading the opening of seven great scripts from some of Austin's best storytellers. Join us for this fantastic event THIS Thursday, January 26, at 7 PM. All the info plus to grab your tickets, visit https://bit.ly/3QlVGtJe. Until then, we want to preview each story and the writer who created it. Today's feature is Everything Changes by .

Screenplay: Everything Changes

Tech sales star, Emily Letourneau, settles for her average life. A cancer diagnosis changes everything: forcing her to face the past, embrace the present and reimagine her future.

Writer: Victoria Brooks

Victoria Brooks is a poster child for bad choices, luckily escaping relatively unscathed, except for that one time. You’ll have to meet her to hear *that* story. She shares her legacy of bad decisions for entertainment and life lessons, hoping that women will relate. She hopes they’ll find strength in the tears and laughter of her characters’ journeys, remembering to get back up again and find a way when life hits hard. She’s won some writing awards and placed in several competitions, which is likely the least exciting thing about her. Since sharing her writer’s cred is customary, some of them include Stage 32 Screenwriting Fellowship (Semi-Finalist), Page Turner – First 15 (Quarter Finalist), ISA – 2018 Austin Writer, and several not highly recognized but still great ego boost competitions. You can find her at events in and around Austin, such as SXSW and Austin Film Festival.

"AFF carries a reputation - particularly for screenwriting - that surpasses every other festival. It's always hailed as a grand achievement when one's screenplay does well in competition there. The Austin Film Festival and Conference - where the writer is the story!"

Ready to have your film be seen on the big screen? Submit to Austin Film Festival today! Hear what one of our past filmmakers has to say about their AFF experience.

"Thank you so much, AFF! The best thing about this festival is it really focuses on process and the work - It doesn't pander to the glitz and glam that sometimes makes this industry seductive. Wonderfully diverse industry conference and programming. You really do champion inclusivity in every way - there were no secret parties that excluded filmmakers who were not "on the scene" -Everyone had access to everything, and that really makes a difference when it comes to the kinds of connections you can make.

You really do champion the filmmakers programmed, and it means a lot. I left remembering my worth as a writer and artist because it really did feel like the festival was committed to reminding creatives of the process and their inherent value. Thanks so much. Can't wait to be back with a feature!"

Over the years, one of my favorite parts of AFF is meeting new people &/or old movie pals (i.e. Emberly Dionne) in line. Yet another loss in 2020 thanks to COVID-19. Another highlight of AFF in past years is that typically there's a theme amongst the movies I see each year. This year's themes of connection and serendipity somewhat make up for the loss of in-person connection. THANK YOU Austin Film Festival for another AWESOME adventure (thus far)!! A particular shout out to Barbara Morgan and Casey Baron for creating an outside-of-the-box Festival this year!
As a member of the Australian Writer's Guild, I'm really excited about being able to join this Film Festival virtually! Can't wait for it.
Hi All, wanted to share some exciting news with you.
2018 Dark Matters Audience Award Winner ALIVE. is coming soon to theatres and on demand Sept 18th!
Hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy the film.
My finished script has 4 people dying tragically, but it's based on anti-bullying (does have great "family" scenes) and has a "Pay it Forward" kind of ending. So, I doubt it's what you're looking for. Bummer. I have Final Draft and it took more than a year to get right (and my last 3 months writing it was right after I'd gotten my BA in film from Purdue...).

I'm trying to find out how much it costs to submit to the screenwriting competition. I can't find it on your website. Can you give me that information? Also, I can't find the screenwriting competition on filmfreeway-will you not be accepting submissions that way?
I see we have a lot of film lovers on this page! I thought I could contribute by providing some info on this new sci-fi indie film, Empathy, Inc., that takes the phrase," taking a walk in someone else's shoes" very literal. Through the dynamic insert shots and dutch angles, the director, Yedidya Gorsetman, allows the audience to see the paranoia in the characters. I'd have to recommend this film, you can find it on iTunes and Amazon, feel free to let me know what you think!
When will we know what the Thursday buzz screenings are?
A tasty helping of genre fare coming your way Austin Film Festival. “Together” makes its US Premiere 10/26 at 8:30pm Alamo Drafthouse Village as part of “The Shorts are Coming From Inside the House” program. Actor Clayton Farris and Director will be in attendance to remediate any biohazards.
Thrilled that my script The Paul Bearers has advanced to the Semi-Finals - and can't WAIT to visit the Austin Film Festival at the end of October. Yee-ha! (as I believe our American cousins say).
