Students, their families, friends and allies from across Austin marched from City Hall to the Capitol on Saturday, March 24, in an effort to raise awareness and make substantive changes to gun policy in Texas, and the United States. About 20,000 people took part in this march. It was truly awe inspiring. Here are some photos from the event. Nicole Gollis Golden

Saturday, March 24, Jayne and I will take part in the for Our Lives at the Texas State Capitol. I haven't taken any photos since the Women's March and Rally last year. COPD and a compression fracture in my lower back has kept me off my feet. I will take photos.

I wish I could be with everyone today at City Hall and the Capitol for the Impeachment Rally and the Women's March, but I cannot. An issue with my back will not allow me to stand, let alone walk. I am with everyone in Spirit.

Haven't done any photographic work for a while now. Bad back and shoulder. I hope to be back at it soonish.

The Liberal Austin Democrats took action in support of the Worker Defense Project's Day of the Fallen March and Rally to call attention to the dangerous working conditions endured by construction workers each day in Texas. Texas is the most deadly and dangerous state for construction workers’ to work in the country, but WDP and allied groups are working to change this. Each legislative session WDP works to defeat bills that harm workers and pass bills that will better protect the organization’s members. WDP also conducts a statewide lobby day each legislative session where WDP members and allies visit the offices of all 150 legislators, the Governor and the Lieutenant governor in favor of the organization’s legislative agenda. This year marks the 4th Day of the Fallen and it is as critically important as ever to highlight the dangerous conditions that Texas workers face and to call for Texas to do more to protect them.

I will post a second round of photos, called Women's March on Austin 1-21-2017 - B, because FB has stopped uploading at 201 Photos.

The largest March and Rally in Texas history took place in Austin, Texas on Saturday (final crowd estimate over 100,000). Because of the size of the crowd, and wanting to chronicle the event as best I could, there are 258 photos here. That may be too many for some of you to look at. But, for those that do look at the photos, and LIKE this page, please tag yourself and those you know.

If you would like a small or full resolution file or a print of any of these photos, you can find them at https://davidthomasphotos.smugmug.com/organize/Womens-March-on-Austin-1-21-2017

Annual Celebration of Choice. This year we had two great speakers who sat as a panel - Stephanie Toti, the attorney who led the oral arguments in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, before the the Supreme Court who struck down both Texas regulations that made it more difficult for clinics to provide abortions. Also on the panel was former State Senator Wendy Davis, who stood for 11 hours in a filibuster in the Texas Senate, delaying the Senate's vote on HB-2, in 2013. The Celebration was one of the best I have attended and photographed.
