“Elegy of a Former Self” 18x24” acrylic and charcoal on canvas.
This painting brings forth the longing of days passed, and of understanding newly gained. It is a movement into a new dimension of safety through the death of the self. This death brings forth an eerie rebirth in which a new lightness has not yet made itself known. It is the pause, the breath, the suspension within a new world of more complex understanding before its benefits are subjectively understood. And it is here that something new, though still unnamed, quietly takes shape.
⬆️I wrote this meditation on this art piece today while reflecting on the stage of life where you feel you’re existing between selves, mourning a self lost while suspended in a thick smoky grief- all the while extremely aware that somewhere the sun is shining on a new life and that soon, I too will be able to bask in its freedom.
