Experiment time - Westy Antique Ivory 👨🏻🔬 experimenting with different materials has been a passion of mine for the last decade. From dyeing/stabilizing woods, casting resin with mixed media, etching different types of metals…the list goes on and on. One of the materials that’s always fascinated me has been Westinghouse Antique Ivory Paper Micarta. We’ve tried all sorts of experiments to get the skin to darken faster than it does naturally over time…and failed. Most of your natural/Butterscotch Micarta and other phenolics will darken faster from exposure to the sun and elements but I never gave Westy AIM a long enough time in the hot and bright Texas sun. Needless to say, you can see it changing pretty well from a couple months outside. On a long enough time-frame it looks like this will work. I will continue to experiment and share my results. However, the strange thing is that most of your old Westy Ivory got dark in a shop in an old makers drawer or on a shelf, so the primary force was never the sun 🤷🏼♂️
