Good afternoon, Art Fans! 🖼️ 🎨 🖌️ How was your weekend?
I spent my weekend working on my latest dark tale from the fairies.🧚 🧚‍♀️I still have a long way to go, but honestly, I am enjoying taking my “sweet” time. I was quite worried about my little heroine’s face, but I think I pulled it off. The paper is chocolate brown and it was crazy hard to think about how to accomplish the job. In the end, I just let the brown paper do most of the work for her eyes and hair.
I had two glasses of wine last night, so I moved off of my technically difficult, little subject and instead focused on the yummy background. Making the colorful candy house was fun and not too tricky, a piece of cake. I have learned that wine is fine, and actually sometimes even helpful, when making art, as long as you aren’t doing anything too intricate.
I am hoping to finish this little treat in time to submit for the new Round Rock Arts show at the Penfold Theater Gallery. Are you an artist in the Austin, Round Rock area looking for a great open call?
“Our next Open Call, Hit Me With Your Best Shot, opens Monday!
Our Penfold Gallery Curator is looking for the bold, the fearless, and the unforgettable. This juried exhibition invites artists to submit the work they're most proud of—the piece that represents their finest achievement.
We want the art that defines your voice, the work that took courage to create, and the piece you can't stop thinking about.
All 2D media are welcome.
Mark your calendar and get your portfolio ready. The call opens Monday. We can't wait to see your best shot.”
Now, I don’t know if this new piece is really going to be my best work, but I always choose to believe the work I am currently doing is going to be an absolute masterpiece.
Happy Monday, Art Fans! 🌞
