Kengo went to Net York!🗽 At the end of July, Kengo traveled to New York to attend OrigamiUSA Convention 2026ーOrigamiUSA! He had wanted to go for a long time, so he was especially excited to finally attend for the first time.

Over three days, he participated in four classes and learned new techniques from four wonderful instructors. Some of the models were too challenging to finish during class, but he carefully brought all of his completed pieces home.

One of the best parts of the convention was meeting a fellow origami enthusiast from Seattle who happened to sit next to him in class. They quickly became friends, and Kengo learned more about pre-creasing and folding from crease patterns. On the final day, they folded together in the hospitality room until late at night.

They have stayed in touch since returning home and occasionally video call each other to fold origami together. We are so grateful that origami brought another wonderful friendship into Kengo’s life.

Kengo now hopes to attend origami conventions in many different countries!

Several pieces he completed at the convention will be displayed at his September exhibit. We hope you’ll come see them in person!

Kengo had another wonderful opportunity to share origami, this time at a private gathering at a family’s home!

The host invited many of her children’s school friends and their families, and we heard there were around 40 people there altogether. So many kids and parents joined in, which made the whole morning feel lively, warm, and special.

Everyone sat in a big circle around Kengo, and he taught them how to fold hearts and paper airplanes. After that, the kids had a paper airplane contest to see whose plane could fly the farthest. It was such a fun moment to watch everyone get excited and cheer each other on!

The host had first heard about Kengo from a friend who visited his origami exhibit in May, and then reached out to us directly. We are truly grateful that she invited Kengo and brought everyone together for such a thoughtful and warm gathering.💚

Thank you so much to the host family for welcoming us into your home, and to everyone who came, folded, encouraged Kengo, and made the day so memorable.

Kengo came home feeling so grateful for the experience and for all the kindness and encouragement he received from everyone.

Today, Kengo held his very first origami workshop at The Kids Bookshop in Leander.

We started with simple hearts for beginners, and then some of the kids tried more challenging pieces like jumping frogs and cranes. It was so cute to see how excited they were when they finished their origami. Their faces really lit up when they saw what they had made.

Thank you so much to The Kids Bookshop for having us. It was our first time visiting, and it was such a warm and fun place. Ann welcomed all of the children with a big smile, and they clearly loved being there.

Some of the kids said, “I don’t want to go home,” “I want to come back tomorrow,” and even, “I want to buy the whole bookstore!” That was probably the best review a bookstore could get.📚💚

Kengo was very happy to have the chance to work with such a lovely bookstore. This was his first time teaching a workshop, so he learned both how fun and how difficult it can be to teach.

We’re hoping to continue doing more origami workshops and exhibits in the future. Thank you to everyone who came today.

Thank you so much to everyone who came to Kengo’s first origami exhibit yesterday!

Around 150 people stopped by during the 3-hour exhibit, and we were truly overwhelmed by all the kindness and support.💚

We were so happy to see so many people stop by, ask questions, and spend time looking at his work. Kengo was especially excited to meet people who share an interest in origami and creativity.

We were also so touched that teachers and friends from both his local school and Japanese school came, along with neighbors, his pediatrician, library staff members, and so many people who found the exhibit through my Facebook post! It truly meant so much to us.

We felt so lucky to meet so many wonderful people—including those who folded origami with us at the exhibit, came back more than once, invited friends to visit, or even asked about purchasing his work!

And to those who said they wanted to come but couldn’t make it this time, we hope to see you at the next exhibition.

Welcome to Origami by Kengo FB page.

After moving from Tokyo to Austin a few years ago, origami became a way for Kengo to connect with people through creativity.

Today, he creates highly complex origami art from a single sheet of paper, with some designs taking days to fold.

May 2026 marked his very first public exhibition. We created this page as a place to stay connected after the exhibition.

We’ll share updates about future exhibitions, origami classes, and new creations here.
