After the battle of San Jacinto, Texian soldiers took items from the Mexican camp, including General Santa Anna’s personal belongings. Learn more below!

Texians took Mexican weapons, horses, and officers’ private items, which they auctioned off in a “b***y auction” on April 26, 1836. Each Texian soldier was given a few dollars to bid on the captured goods. Items associated with Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna were particularly prized souvenirs.

Made by a Mexican silversmith, this chamber pot, currently on view on the second floor of the Bullock Museum, was taken from Santa Anna’s tent. It was purchased by a soldier during the b***y auction and gifted to Sam Houston. This s***f box was reputedly taken directly from Santa Anna when he was captured.

Learn more about what happened to items captured during the Texas Revolution and plan your visit to see them in person today! ➤➤ https://tinyurl.com/2abs963z
