Arts on Alexander is proud to present our new season — nine evenings of music that will challenge what you think classical performance can be.
Most orchestras play Prokofiev, Ravel, and Stravinsky the same way they have for the past hundred years — on modern instruments, with modern strings. Philharmonie Austin doesn't. Our musicians play on gut strings, with period bows and instruments built the way they were made when this music was new. They might even play standing. The result is something you can feel in your chest: rawer, more direct, more alive. There is nothing else quite like this happening in America.
This season we feature even greater Philharmonie Austin performances, including two performances by Philharmonie Austin Chamber Players. The highlight of our season will be Philharmonie Austin's 300th anniversary performance of Johann Sebastian Bach's monumental Saint Matthew Passion.
Our lineup also includes world-renowned guests such as Vox Luminis, VOCES8, and Anton Nel, as well as three collaborations with our friends at Lazarus Brewing, including our annual Bach & Beer.
