Charles Stuart has worked as a painter, photographer, designer, printmaker and digital artist across more than five decades. He began making art in 1968 and took a B.A. (Hons) in Graphic Design in 1975. His path was set years earlier, saying at the age of fifteen when looking at Modern paintings that he decided, “This is for me!” Stuart’s work is imagined rather than observed. These are images that hold a conversation with the past without retracing it. Charles has always been drawn to painting itself more than to the idea of “Art”: colour, texture, gesture, surface, the honest trace of a mark.

Meet Caroline Pinney, a contemporary figurative artist based in Austin, Texas. Caroline’s paintings explore intimacy and human relationships: vibrant moments of solidarity, chaotic scenes with quiet tension, and still moments of leisure and companionship.

Pinney’s art brut–inspired approach moves between loose, gestural marks and careful, controlled detail. Her mixed media process is as layered as the people she paints. Alongside acrylic, oil stick, and charcoal, she experiments with coffee staining, handmade ink from natural materials, spray paint, and subtractive techniques. Each texture gives her figures their own personality.
