Meet ATMA Ensemble Artist: ✨ Ella Gross ✨

Ella is a dancer, choreographer, and movement artist based in Austin, Texas.

One of the things we value about Ella is the sincerity and focus she brings into the room. She has a beautiful willingness to try, to be seen, to ask for help, and to keep growing past fear.

Ella began dancing at a young age, training at Ballet Austin at the J, Dancers Workshop, Rise Dance Company, the Anderson Trojan Belles, and Colorado State University. Her work has since carried her through ATMA Moves, Revision Dance Company, Early Eras Collective, Clubhouse, Blk Odyssy music videos, and independent dance films including Abstain Devour and Hall Pass.

For Ella, dance began as a sanctuary. After stepping away for several years, she felt something missing and dreamed of dancing almost every night until she returned.

β€œIt felt like home.”

Now, dance is becoming more than a passion; it is becoming a purpose.

Her guiding phrase right now is:

β€œHow you do anything is how you do everything.”

Ella was drawn to ATMA Moves because she had been searching for guidance, mentorship, care, and creative safety; a place where she could be challenged and still feel loved for exactly where she is.

We are grateful to have Ella moving with us in the ATMA Ensemble.

An ATMA Ensemble Artist is someone who chooses to come closer to the work; to enter the practice, grow through the creative process, and participate in opportunities guided by ATMA Moves.

Come see Ella in all things ATMA, including What Makes Wings, premiering as a work-in-progress in The Artist Files by Shakti ✨ on October 20 in Austin.

There is something really special about showing up before you know exactly where the work will lead.

We train, we listen, we move, we make space for one another, and little by little, something begins to reveal itself.

As I slowly recover, heal, and build strength I get chances to move with this community while I lead class.

So grateful for this season of movement, community, and becoming with ATMA Moves. πŸ•ŠοΈ

Grateful for three beautiful days of ballet with the Westwood High School SunDancers. ✨

A heartfelt thank you to Jenna Drummond for inviting me in to teach this series of ballet masterclasses, and to the SunDancers for meeting the work with such openness, focus, and generosity.

There is something incredibly meaningful about sharing a practice built over a lifetime in dance with the next generation of movement artists. I was deeply honored by your feedback, your trust, and the commitment you brought into the room each day.

Thank you for welcoming me and ATMA Moves into your space. I loved our three days together and am already looking forward to more. 🀍

Why it’s called ATMA Moves.

Δ€tmā is an ancient name for the indwelling Self β€” the unborn, undying essence that lives in every being as the Divine spark.

The Mover is the Δ€tmā. The body, mind, emotions, and energy field are the vehicles through which it expresses itself in form.

Ancient traditions have given us many ways of understanding this indwelling spark. But to understand the name ATMA Moves, we have to look at what the Soul does.

It dances.

I’m excited to start sharing more of the philosophy behind ATMA Moves with you. 🀍

For the past several years, I’ve been developing ATMA Moves: A Philosophy of Conscious Movement, Energy & Sacred Motion while writing a manuscript exploring movement, embodiment, energy, spiritual development, reverence, love, joy, ethics, and the life of the soul.

I’ve started opening that work through my Substack. Link in bio πŸ”—

I’ll be sharing selected ATMA Notes from the manuscript for free, alongside deeper teachings and behind-the-book explorations for paid subscribers who want to go further and help support the continued development of the work.

The newest essay is β€œTaking Joy Seriously”, from section β€œThe Blessings of the Soul”.

What if we learned to take our joy as seriously as we take our pain?

It’s free to read now.

β€οΈπŸ™πŸ½ My heart is so full watching Lexi and Jacy grow within this work. I am deeply proud of them. Not only for their artistry, but for the generosity, commitment, and reverence they bring into every rehearsal.

ATMA Artists, Lexi and Jacy, embody so much of what the work asks of a Mover: discipline, technique, sensitivity, and the willingness to listen deeply; to the movement, to one another, and to what is still unfolding.

ATMA Moves is rooted in the understanding that technique is not separate from spirit, and that how we enter the room matters just as much as what we create inside it. I feel incredibly grateful to create alongside artists who embody these qualities so fully.

Here they are in rehearsal for β€œWhat Makes Wings”, a work about arrival, belonging, remembrance, and the communities that help us reach beyond what we believed was possible.

🦜 At the center of this new work is the red-crowned parrot: displaced from its ancestral home in northeastern Mexico, yet brave enough to travel north, adapt, and make a new home in South Texas. Its journey echoes through so many of our own stories.

But belonging is not only about finding somewhere new. It also asks us to honor the people, histories, and land that were already there.

You were born already able to fly. Sometimes, we simply need one another to remember.

β€œWhat Makes Wings” will be shared as a work in progress on October 20, 2026, through the Artist Files: Makers Program presented by Shakti Moves Dance Company
