Hey y’all! I’m coming home to the Bay!

I’m thrilled to share that Margo Hall will direct ‘a production of The Black Feminist Guide to the Human Body. It opens on Friday, September 20th and runs until October 6th at the Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture in San Francisco! Come get this blessing!

——

A Joyous New Play Honoring the Lives and Resilience of Black Women Lands in San Francisco! The Black Feminist Guide to the Human Body triumphantly concludes its first ever national tour at Lorraine Hansberry Theatre this Fall, riding a wave of accolades from reviewers and audiences alike.

“Let the beautiful, sad, joyous women in your life feast on this wisdom.” - The Austin Chronicle | “...a reminder that…our humanhood is a blessing.” - Austin Women Magazine | This play “encourages Black women to find joy and wisdom in aging…” - American Theatre Magazine

Directed by Artistic Director Margo Hall, Lisa B. Thompson’s acclaimed new play follows an older Black woman professor encountering herself as she moves through time and memory to explore and honor the uniqueness of Black womanhood. Offering validation, self-love and a collective exhale, Thompson’s new work is not only a joyous, raucous, and spiritual event, but it is a love letter to Black women and their families who know that, in spite of it all, we are still here.

Performing Sep 19 - Oct 6 at the Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. For tickets, and to learn more, please visit www.lhtsf.org/black-feminist-guide

WE NEED YOUR HELP

We are at a critical juncture and urgently need your help to keep Ground Floor Theatre’s doors open.

As you know, Ground Floor Theatre is dedicated to bringing award-winning, high-quality theatre to Austin focusing on underrepresented communities. Our success in doing that was just today recognized in the Chronicle’s Best of Austin 2024 poll, in which our very own founder and co-artistic director, Lisa Scheps, was recognized as the Best Theatre Director. Congratulations, Lisa!

We have already taken measures to reduce costs, including cutting staff hours and leadership pay cuts. However, these efforts are not enough to sustain us long-term without your support.

Your generosity can ensure that Ground Floor Theatre continues to be a home for diverse voices and a vital part of Austin’s vibrant arts scene. Without your help, we face the possibility of closure, which would be a significant loss to the community and the numerous arts organizations that rely on our space.

If you cannot donate at this time, your voice is equally important. Please share our story and need for support with anyone who might be able to help. Thank you for standing with us and for your unwavering support. Together, we can ensure Ground Floor Theatre can keep the door open and remains a cornerstone of Austin’s cultural landscape for many years to come.

Sincerely,
The Board of Ground Floor Theatre

With your help we plan to continue our full season of four fully produced shows as well as our summer youth q***r camp, 14/48, and GFT Writes.
