The Center is a resource for the community and visitors to learn and participate in classes and programs that will foster a meaningful understanding and appreciation of not only Mexican American, but also Native American, Chicano, and other Latino cultures. The programs and educational curriculum include areas of visual art, theatre, dance, literature, music, language arts, and multi-media.

Our walks are relaxed, accessible, and designed to help us connect with one another, our culture, and the beautiful spaces we share. A monthly walking group rooted in community, movement, and learning—one step at a time.Bring your walking shoes, your curiosity, and your loved ones. We can't wait to walk with you! The MACC is excited to host this collaborative event in July!
The event is a full day, free and open to all, on Saturday, July 25th from 10am-7pm. Join us for a day of learning, empowering, and sharing. If you've ever wanted to dive deeper into the connections between Mexican American and African American history, this is the perfect opportunity!

The symposium is called “Visibilizing a Freedom Fighter, Silvia Hector Webber: A Legacy of Resistance & Black Freedom in North America”. It will not only highlight the Webber Family history in Texas but other descendants who have taken the lead in the preservation and restoration of their history, culture, and sites.

This symposium is part of the Webber Family Preservation Project’s ongoing work with funding provided by the Mellon Foundation. Our partners and sponsors in this symposium are the City Of Austin, The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center, Academia Cuauhtli, Tejano Genealogy Society of Austin, and The League Of United Latin American Citizens.

Speaker Highlight! On July 25, the ESB MACC will host the event: “Visibilizing a Freedom Fighter, Silvia Hector Webber: A Legacy of Resistance & Black Freedom in North America” .

This FREE symposium will highlight the Webber Family history in Texas and other descendants who have taken the lead in the preservation and restoration of their history, culture, and sites. Inaugural Keynote Speaker: Dr. Cheryl LaRoche, 10:15am:

For more than twenty years, archaeologist Dr. Cheryl Janifer LaRoche has been researching and physically exploring the landscapes of 18th and 19th century free Black communities, their churches, cemeteries and institutions, and their relationship to the Underground Railroad. She also has been women’s escape experiences for a quarter century. Currently she serves as the Principal Investigator and Ethnohistorian for the Arlington House: The Memorial to Robert E. Lee Descendant Families Ethnohistory project consulting for the National Park Service. In celebration of the 200th anniversary of Harriet Tubman’s birth, Professor LaRoche spoke about “Harriet Tubman & Leadership: Her Legacy for the 21st Century” for the United States Capitol Historical Society. Dr. LaRoche served as the Project Historian for the Cultural Expressions Exhibition for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture and has consulted for numerous Museum and National Park Service projects.
