“𝗕𝗮𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁” 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟴

A reminder that the deadline to submit short plays, short stories or poems for consideration for our October 4 ONS Theater show, “Bad Theater Night,” is 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟴. We’re looking for plays, stories or poems about when things go wrong in live theatre: onstage or backstage disasters, bad actors, directors, or tech crew; and parodies of famous plays, playwrights, comedy, drama, melodrama or the avant-garde.

The limit is 3 plays, stories or poems per writer; send them to 𝗧𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀@𝗢𝗻𝗲𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿.𝗼𝗿𝗴

🎭 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧’𝗦 𝗔 𝗪𝗥𝗔𝗣 𝗢𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝟭𝟬-𝟭/𝟮 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦! 🎭

Sunday night’s 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 was a lot of fun—and a great evening of theater!

If you couldn’t join us, you missed a bevy of beachballs, a lovely Christmas tree, a Biblical pondering, a funeral eulogy, brownie bites and a donut, a hospitable angel, an insolent demon, and gossip about Cassie, Ralph, Sheila, Bob, Frank and Mary Lou.

And, yes, we managed to work in 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 (there was even a graven image in the penultimate play) … plus two or three new commandments of our own.

𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗬𝗪𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧
𝗟𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗱 has been acting and writing locally since 1978. You may remember him from Germinal Stage, Paragon Theatre, The LIDA Project, Vintage Theatre, Miners Alley Playhouse, Victorian Playhouse, Spotlight Theatre, The Edge, or the elusive Quark Players. Schools and libraries know Leroy as Merry-Andrew Afoot, a one-person children’s theater company. In 2015, One Night Stand honored Leroy with an evening dedicated to his writing.

We are close to wrapping up rehearsals for our “10-1/2 Commandments” evening of staged readings. Join us for these short plays about sin and salvation, following the Commandments and breaking them, heavenly rewards and mysterious beach balls. 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗬𝗪𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧
Dramatists Guild member 𝗩.𝗕. 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻 has directed 45 shows and had 36 of her original scripts produced. Her play 𝘔𝘪𝘢𝘴𝘮𝘢 was performed with Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company in conjunction with CU Boulder for Science Shorts and won first place by audience selection for Riot Act Inc.'s New Works Shorts Festival, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, 2024. Created with BETC Writers Group and Aggregate Collective, 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘒𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘊𝘺𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘢 is published by Next Stage Press. She holds a BA in Creative Writing from CU Boulder and an MPA from UCCS. Lastly, she is proud to have served in the Peace Corps, Armenia, 2008–2010.

𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗬𝗪𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧
𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹 is a Chicago-based, award-winning playwright, actor, and licensed mental health therapist whose work explores trauma, resilience, and healing, often through the vehicle of humor. Her plays have received national and international recognition, including honors from institutions such as the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, Lanford Wilson New American Play Festival, AACT NewPlayFest, and New Works of Merit Playwriting Contest. 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗬𝗪𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧
𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗥𝘂𝘀𝗵𝘁𝗼𝗻 is the Director of New Play Programs at the Greenwich Theatre Company and a longtime collaborator with the Actors Studio of Newburyport, MA. Forty of his short plays have been performed at more than 200 theaters worldwide, with his 𝘔𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 a Finalist for National Award at City Theater–Miami in 2019 and his 𝘎𝘦𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘦’𝘴 𝘙𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘰 the Andaluz Award-winner at the Fusion Theater’s The Seven in 2017. Jack has produced 5 collections of his own work, 5 collaboration shows, and 5 national short-play festivals. As a founder and facilitator of the Playwrights’ Collaborative (TPC), Jack is dedicated to bringing new work to theaters and cultural organizations throughout New England. Jack and TPC have produced twenty-six shows in the last two years, raising nearly $75,000 for these venues and in support of their great missions.
