Mental Cell
Written by James Baker
I awake to just to place myself within a mental cell
Conformed by the hidden tortures amidst the visuals of society
Everyday hearing and seeing who & what I supposed to be
Hearing “I have no choice” being hammered into my brain
Day after day I wake to this same wilderness…raging like a beast
As I grip the bars to scream set me free
All I can do is drop my head and weep
As the world I once knew...like the Titanic...it sinks
Feeling numb to the sting of being a human being
In a world that’s driven four elements
Hate, Fear, Control, and Greed
How can I battle one against the injustice in this world?
I only find myself engaging in a quick retreat
Retreating back to the cell I once asked to be freed
A place where I feel comfortable and safe
A place where conformity is that of my own
A place where there’s only right and no wrong
A place where eternal life hold truth every day
As the outside tried to ripe interpersonal thinking away
Being locked inside myself…I can think for myself
Within the cage I built to escape the Cultural Monopoly
A world under one decree…built and control only by me
Yeah, I hear you saying, I should set myself free
There’s no freedom in a world that despises me
So, I keep my mental cage that I may escape
The hidden tortures of the world everyday when I awake.
