The "No Ke Aloha" Restaurant

My good friend Barbara Shannon-Bannister and I go out to lunch once a month to catch up on all things related to Aurora.

Barbara had a distinguished 36-year career working for the city of Aurora, founded the Aurora Chapter of the NAACP, and, until recently, had served as a member of the city’s Civil Service Commission.

Every month, we try a new restaurant in Aurora and for May we decided to go to the "No Ke Aloha" Restaurant located at 845 S. Buckley Road. I have been there before, but this was the first time for Barbara. This popular family-owned restaurant specializes in traditional Hawaiian comfort foods.

I had the Loco Moco, a classic Hawaiian comfort food dish made with white rice topped with a hamburger patty, a fried egg, and brown gravy. Barbara had their famous Hawaiian BBQ chicken. We both shared a side of their Hurricane Fries which are a variation of French fries but sweet and spicy seasonings.
