The University of Florida is commissioning permanent public art for its Disability Resource Center.

Accessibility is also built into Monochronicle, with features supporting users with dyslexia, low vision, color-vision differences, and other visual or cognitive needs, including readable typography, strong contrast, clear navigation, and information that does not rely on color alone.

Budget starts at $76,250 + $1,250 honoraria for three shortlisted artists. Open internationally to mid-career artists working in mural, sculpture, light, sound, and interactive art.

At the end of 2025, we produced Lumenaura, a light art festival that transformed downtown Aurora, Illinois with 15 large-scale installations by artists from around the world.

Among them was Emergence by This Is Loop, an audiovisual installation exploring the space between order and chaos. Its mirrored nodes create individual optical illusions that, when experienced together, become something larger: a complex, constantly shifting system inspired by emergence theory.

We documented the project from planning and production through installation and opening night, and later released a short film about the work and the process behind bringing it into public space.

That is one reason we are excited to submit the film to Hiding in Plain Site: International Public Art Short Film Festival.

So many thoughtful films are made about public art. They are screened once, published online, shared for a few weeks, and eventually disappear into an archive or hard drive. Hiding in Plain Site gives these films another life, bringing stories about public art back in front of audiences and onto the big screen.

Founded and directed by Jack Becker, longtime public art curator, writer, producer, founder of Forecast Public Art and Public Art Review, the festival is dedicated entirely to the global public art ecosystem and the people working beyond traditional art venues.

The international call for short films is open to artists and filmmakers worldwide. Deadline: September 10, 2026. Festival previews are planned for Minneapolis, Phoenix, and Brasília this fall.

Monochronicle is a large-scale art procurement platform built for artists and the administrators who work with them.

Artists applying to open calls deal with the same friction every time: reediting, reuploading, rebuilding decks for each application, and rarely hearing back. Administrators are understaffed and running every process differently. Curators are limited to the artists they already know. Monochronicle was built to fix all three sides of that problem.

Artists store their portfolio once and pre-fill every future application for free. They can list works sitting in storage on our marketplace and take private commissions.

Administrators build transparent, well-structured briefs that attract the right applicants. The evaluation system supports blind jurying, multi-stage review, and rubric scoring. Artists receive feedback on their submitted images.

We interviewed over one hundred artists, administrators, and curators and watched how they actually move through the process. Everything we built responds to what we observed.

The University of Florida is commissioning a permanent, site-specific artwork for its Disability Resource Center in Gainesville, and the open call is live through August 28.

Preference goes to disabled artists and artists with lived experience of disability. The budget starts at $76,250, with a $1,250 honorarium for three shortlisted artists. It’s open international to mid-career artists, across mural, sculpture, light, sound, and interactive work.

Yesterday I visited Ocala Art Park, where the city’s biennial Outdoor Sculpture Competition transforms the park into an open-air gallery.

Emily Parkman, cultural arts supervisor, gave me a tour. Ten sculptures from artists across the country were selected to remain on view for two years, some of them are permanent. It’s a thoughtful example of how a small city can use a competition to build a lasting cultural experience in a public space.

Good fabrication partners make ambitious public art possible. Happy to introduce Winsor Fireform

Winsor Fireform has been fabricating public art in porcelain enamel on steel since 1983, and we’re glad to work alongside them.

Their panels hold color and detail at architectural scale without fading, delaminating, or needing recoating. That’s why transit agencies like LA Metro and Sound Transit rely on them for artwork that has to survive decades of weather, sun, and heavy public use. Every panel comes with a 25-year fade-free warranty and resists graffiti, scratching, and fire.

For artists, that means paintings, photography, and fine linework can move to permanent outdoor installations without losing the original color or detail. For commissioning agencies, it means fewer maintenance calls and a predictable lifespan for public work.

We found a report on the financial state of the visual arts. It was published in 2018, but remains one of the most honest datasets on artist finances.
