I am attaching a FB that was posted… I leave it to those with strength and courage to follow our mission of VOI to provide transitional support to homeless veterans that need a hand up to receive social services, peer support, education and financial knowledge to obtain permanent housing. As these will be my last posts for VOI, this is placed in your hands to carry out.

I am devastated to learn that a veteran reached out to multiple Veterans Service Organizations seeking help and was left feeling ignored and unsupported. This veteran ultimately felt that he received more respect, dignity, and responsiveness from a private company, one that responded to him immediately and is now charging him $1,500 to assist with filing his claims.
That should concern all of us who serve veterans.
When someone reaches out for help, responding is not optional, it is a basic act of respect. Even when we cannot provide an immediate solution, a simple acknowledgement matters: “We received your message. We hear you. We will follow up.” Even within an organization it is your responsibility to respond to your comrades and your leadership. When I send an email and I don’t receive a response, it tells me a lot about a person. If you’re busy a simple 10-4 will do. I do understand communication can get lost but to blatantly ignore people is a culture that I’m absolutely FU***NG sick of!!!
No veteran seeking assistance should be left wondering whether anyone cares enough to respond. We talk about the 22 Veterans a day we lose to su***de, but you don’t know how that one response could change a persons life!
Our veterans have already served. When they come to us for help navigating the benefits and services they have earned, they deserve responsiveness, dignity, respect, and follow through. Even if it’s not your job, do your due diligence and find someone that can help them and learn how to navigate the system!
We must hold ourselves to a higher standard.
We must do better, even me!
