Time for a vote regarding next weekend’s Saturday swap-meet…. Should we even bother with it in this heat? Will both vendors and shoppers be interested in coming out before it gets too hot?

I’ll do it if it’s going to be worth it for the vendors. However, that decision will rest solely on your responses to this post.

When I say I will do something, I do it regardless. But, as the coordinator, I am far more tired of the unbearable heat and relentless weather moreso than anyone else, so next Saturday, I’m not sure five degrees is going to make much of a difference. The last two months I have tried my best to accommodate but I just end up stressed out, wore down, overworked and underpaid. We’ve experimented all year long with different days, different times, free events and promos, and nothing has been good enough to combat the crazy weather we have endured together.

However, this particular event is symbolic of every weekend that we’ve been open for movies this year (it’s a great idea until it’s time to face the elements only to end up spending more than is earned).

So I will leave this one up to you all …. Do we do the swap meet next Saturday from 7am until noon (or until it’s too hot to stay) or do we just wait until October which will be the second-to-last one before we shut down for the season?

Lastly, just a reminder: next weekend we will no longer be showing movies on Fridays or Sundays because of school so Saturday will be the only day to catch a flick until our last day of the season which is Oct 31. We will still be open for private events any other day though so reach out if you’re interested in that.

But before I leave this up to debate, I just want to say THANK YOU ALL for everything you have done so far to show your support. It is greatly appreciated and doesn’t go unnoticed. Much love from us here at the drive-in to those who know the special meaning this place holds dearly via the timeless memories it’s help to create.

‼️The Sunset Drive-In Theatre will remain CLOSED until Labor Day weekend‼️

There are several reasons for this decision. This has been another very bad season! It has been a struggle with all the rain, movies releases have not been the greatest, expenses are really high and attendance has been very low.

Therefore, with the intense temperatures predicted and then school starting soon, we have made the decision to close for the next 3 weekends.

This is the 75th anniversary year for the Drive-In. And, since 1951, we’ve seen it all. Hard times hit in 1987 particularly with VHS, then came Satellite TV, and not to mention the many other obstacles since present management took over in 1977. That was when many of the 4500 drive-ins nationwide closed. We always reopen the next year and now we are one of the few remaining 300 (or less) drive-ins still operating. But do understand …. We’re not giving up! Just taking a short break at a tough time.

We will reopen for the Labor Day weekend with the projected DOUBLE FEATURE, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and “The End of Oak Street” PG-13.

Cooling station is setup where you can buy movie tickets ($10/car) or help yourself to some free ice water.

We also have fresh squeezed lemonade and baked goods and all your favorite items and vendors as always!

This is a free for all but we will be going back to the 2nd Saturday of every month with November being the very last event out here at the drive-in. Come enjoy a taste of the classics while you can!

We will shut the swap meet down at 5pm and open the box office up at 7:30 for our first throwback of the season!

Reservations for the movie tonight are no longer available since somebody could already be set up in a reservable spot that we will be selling movie tickets on site at the Swap meet until 6 PM and then the box office will reopen at 7:30

The Sunday Swap meet is an experiment to see how much traffic we would get, but if not, we’ll just go back to doing it on the second Saturday of every month
