Glen MacInnis Studio

Glen MacInnis Studio Hand formed and wheel thrown high fired stoneware sculpture and pottery. Glen MacInnis makes clay sculptures and pottery by hand.

Most work begins on the potters wheel, it is manipulated, sculptural elements and textures are added, and then many richly layered glazes are applied. Each piece is fired to 2300 degrees F using various methods including electric oxidation, wood, soda, salt, ash, and raku. His work has been collected worldwide for 38 years.

Today's firing;

Recently, several different diving clients have commented separately about how my early turtles from 30 years ago are glazed in a way that emulates natural, low-light conditions.

In that spirit, I one-handedly gimp-glazed this bale with a new glaze color combo and application.

Thrown and altered white stoneware, Cone ten OX.

An Antikyathra Octopot, the largest wall hanging loggerhead I ever made, a giant Mola Mola, and an octopus riding a sea turtle (a ridiculous idea I dismissed for decades, until someone sent me a video of the actual occurrence). These are a few of my favorite things. I don't have cats anymore, but I'm still fond of whiskers on kittens, as Julie Andrews once said. Maybe someone will bring one by. https://www.google.com/search?q=antikythera%20mechanism.

Firing Forensics;

I got a text from my girl with a photo of the mug on the left, asking, "Should I buy it? It looks familiar." "Absolutely", I replied.

I bought the mug on the right a few years ago from Cody Tamaian, whom I met when he was a graduating ceramics student five years prior. I suspect the new find is an earlier version, so I tagged him and some of our mutual potter friends who might like seeing this and add some insight

Mark Hutton; 1953-2026.

These two Turtle Boxes of mine were glazed and fired by Mark. We potters refer to these glazes as"Potter's Glazes". Tenmoku and Copper Red aren't always the best sellers, but if you know the technical wizardry behind them, each one is a miracle.
Mark could glaze one of his pieces in a minute or two.
It took him 7 hours to glaze these.

The delivery was made, and, to my surprise, exquisite blown glass accessories were immediately applied.

Photographing lamps can be tricky. I don't have many great shots, and I'm happy to have this rare photograph. I got a poke this morning from an Austrian potter, and she mentioned she was working on lamps in her chilly studio, so my mind drifted to this shot. It was taken in a dark, barren room. The only thing in it was this lamp and a table. I took a chance on a crazy setting and shot handheld, with no high hopes.
