Mural madness! Our first public art project in Au Sable Forks!

Thank you to all that attending our mural dedication on Friday, June 5! We had beautiful weather and an amazing turn out from our community.

Big shout out to for facilitating the “Walls Between Waters” program; the fearless coordinator and facilitator Alex Hall, who did the dirty work of wall prep, the our amazing Jay Public Art Committee, and our community whose tremendous outpouring of ideas, themes, and stories contributed to design.

AND the biggest shout out to our muralist .rosendale, aka Miss Teal, for the time, dedication, and talent she brought to the project.

AND another shot out to our town supervisor Matt Stanley for his encouragement to apply to this remarkable program and his support throughout.

In small towns like ours, every effort to create beauty, inspire connection, and invest in shared spaces matters. We believe revitalization happens one project, one building, and one act of creativity at a time. It takes all of us doing what we can to enhance and celebrate the place we call home, and we’re honored that this mural will help contribute to the continued energy, pride, and renewal of Au Sable Forks!

ART IN THE FORKS
Button Design Contest
2026 ART In the Forks Buttons are to celebrate Ausable Forks and the creative community that resides here. The buttons will be used to draw attention to the September 5, 2026 event that will showcase arts in Ausable Forks, art workshops and art fair.

Deadline: June 1 (extended through the holiday weekend)

Overview
Help us design the official button for ART in the Forks! We are looking for creative, original designs that capture the spirit of Ausable Forks. The winning design will be turned into buttons and used to help draw attention and raise some funds for the event.
Design Rules
Original Art Only: Submissions must be the original work of the entrant. No copyrighted characters.

Shape: Designs must fit within a circular template..
Details: Keep designs simple and bold so they are visible at 2 inches.
Colors: All colors are welcome!

How to Submit.
Physical: Drop off your drawing at Au Sable Forks Library or email to [email protected]
Required Information: Include your name, age (if a children's contest), and phone number with your submission.
Judging Criteria
Entries will be judged by [Committee/Community] based on:
Theme Interpretation: How well the design represents Au Sable Forks.
Creativity: Originality of the concept.

Our community welcomes Oregon-based muralist “Miss Teal” .rosendale who, with input from all of us will transform the massive walls of the theater into our first public art project!

To celebrate the mural’s installation, an Artist Talk with Miss Teal will be held Monday, June 1, at 6p at the Community Building in Jay at 11 School Lane, Au Sable Forks. The talk is free and open to the public.

The official mural dedication and community mural celebration will take place on at the mural site at the Ausable Theater on Friday, June 5, from 6 to 8 pm. The celebration will include live music, food trucks and kid-friendly activities.

The public art project is a partnership between the community and the Essex County Land Bank’s program, an offshoot of the Land Bank and the . Special thanks to for guiding us through the process.

As the owners of the Ausable Theater, we applied for this opportunity and offered their property as the mural site: “We’re thrilled to welcome muralist Erika Rosendale aka Miss Teal to Au Sable Forks for this landmark public art project at the Ausable Theater. Bringing this sweeping colorful mural to our historic Main Street with the involvement and input from the community, is an exciting moment not only for our theater, but for our entire region. In small rural towns like ours, every effort to create beauty, inspire connection, and invest in shared spaces matters. We believe revitalization happens one project, one building, and one act of creativity at a time. It takes all of us doing what we can to enhance and celebrate the place we call home, and we’re honored that this mural will help contribute to the continued energy, pride, and renewal of Au Sable Forks.”

During the project, the community can watch Miss Teal work from her scaffolding platform to create the this soon to be dedicated mural with the theme inspired by the input from the community.

AUSABLE FORKS | Beginning May 17, a massive blank wall on Ausable Theater will be transformed with a mural painted by "Miss Teal," Oregon-based muralist Erika Rosendale with the help of artists from Altona and Plattsburgh.

We’d like to express a heartfelt thank you to everyone that helped make the fourth annual Drag Christmas Special so amazing. Over 220 attendees were packed into the Jay Community Center for the event on December 28.
