1944 Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy by Mary Chase about Elwood P. Dowd, a charming, eccentric man who introduces his best friend—a 6-foot-3.5-inch invisible white rabbit named Harvey—to everyone in town. To protect the family’s social standing, Elwood’s sister, Veta Louise, attempts to have him committed to a sanitarium, but a comedy of errors results in her being committed instead. Ultimately, the play explores themes of kindness over intelligence and the value of accepting non-conformity.
