We do throw in some Irish, especially the ones that are crossover tunes, like Red-Haired Boy (Little Begger Man) and Road to Lisdoonvarna and others that are easy to follow and pick up. This is also a great learners’ jam, so we may play things a little slower than a more seasoned jam. Come with some tunes in mind to call when it’s your turn to call. Call something you know well, or that you know s
omeone else in the group knows well and ask them to lead it. (This is a good way to work on a tune you’re learning.) But feel free to pass if you’re not comfortable leading anything or you have nothing readily in mind. Come with as little written music as possible. Having the music in your head and fingers is ideal, but we also know that isn’t always possible. So, Pegram’s or something like that becomes helpful. But try and learn by heart as many tunes as you can so that the jam isn’t slowed down by everyone flipping through pages trying to find the tune. When you're off the music, you get the chance to listen to everyone else better, which is what jamming is all about! Keep in mind that we are on private property with permission from the property management. Be mindful that businesses are open and operating, and we want to do as little as possible to be in the way. Hopefully, our playing brings people out!
