“I want to talk to all of us, people on the left and the right, because I think what we’re dealing with right now is not the difference between right and left. It’s really the difference between right and wrong. It’s wrong to crush people. And I think it’s really too bad when my party cedes so much of the faith and values, space and language to those on the right, especially since more often than not, in my view, they’ve got it wrong.”

In a recent interview with NPR, Senator Raphael Warnock reflected on faith, politics, and the moral questions at the heart of American life.

Join us this Saturday, June 20 at 6 PM at Glenn Memorial Church as A Ca****la Books hosts Senator Warnock’s first Atlanta book launch event for “The Crooked Places Made Straight: Reflections on the Moral Meaning of America.” He’ll be joined in conversation by Carol Anderson. Tickets are still available, and each ticket includes a signed first edition hardcover.

“What are you actually worshiping? What are you actually committed to? Are you committed to the poor? Are you committed to the despised and the rejected?

…What is it in the Gospel, I would ask my colleagues, that says that this is right? Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. There’s some variation of that in all of the great faith traditions, and that’s the question people aren’t asking themselves deeply enough. Because if you do, you might actually have to make some decisions that make you uncomfortable.”

In a compelling new interview with The New York Times, Senator Raphael Warnock reflects on faith, democracy, and the moral questions at the heart of American life. The conversation also offers an early glimpse into the themes explored in his new book, “The Crooked Places Made Straight: Reflections on the Moral Meaning of America.”

Join us Saturday, June 20, at Glenn Memorial Church at Emory University as Senator Warnock celebrates the launch of “The Crooked Places Made Straight” in conversation with historian Carol Anderson.

Each ticket includes a signed first edition of the book. Tickets are available now via the link:

Last week, we sent out a special edition of our High Note newsletter looking ahead to a summer of conversations inspired by America’s 250th anniversary and the questions that come with it: how we got here, where we’re headed, and what democracy asks of us today.

After hosting Eddie S. Glaude Jr. last Wednesday, we’re excited to continue the series tomorrow night at Wild Heaven with Barbara McQuade discussing her new book, “The Fix.” From there, we’ll welcome Daniel Squadron and Jason Esteves at teh shop on Saturday, followed by Jesse Wegman discussing “The Lost Founder,” and next month we’re honored to host Democrat Senator Chris Murphy at Wild Heaven.

If you’d like to keep up with events like these, get first word on major ticket announcements, browse our latest signed editions and sponsored book clubs, and stay connected to everything happening at A Ca****la Books, subscribe to our weekly newsletter via the link below. to May 2019, when Scott Pelley visited Atlanta to discuss his book, “Truth Worth Telling,” with stops at Manuel’s Tavern and the Carter Center.

Of the many author receptions we’ve hosted over the years, this remains one of our most memorable. Before the main event, Scott spent time with members of the A Ca****la Choir, taking the time to meet guests one-on-one and chat with everyone who came through the room. It was clear that those conversations meant a great deal to the guests who joined us that evening.

We’ve long believed that thoughtful journalism and honest storytelling matter. It was truly an honor to share such a special evening with one of journalism’s most respected voices.

Many thanks to Eddie S. Glaude Jr. for joining us at Emory last night to celebrate “America, U.S.A.: How Race Shadows the Nation’s Anniversaries.” It was a pleasure to welcome him back to Atlanta and to hear him in conversation with Erica Armstrong Dunbar, who brought curiosity, insight, and a deep knowledge of the history at the heart of the book.

We’re grateful to Erica, our partners at Emory, and everyone who helped make the evening possible. And thank you to the audience, whose attention, questions, and enthusiasm carried from the conversation all the way through the signing line.

We have a limited number of signed copies of “America, U.S.A.: How Race Shadows the Nation’s Anniversaries” available now at the store and online here: https://www.acappellabooks.com/pages/books/391324/eddie-s-glaude/america-u-s-a-how-race-shadows-the-nations-anniversaries
