"For us, the Ring is a little bit like the Olympics."

General & Artistic Director Tomer Zvulun said it best — and this sidebar brings together the full team to reflect on what it has truly meant to undertake the most ambitious project in The Atlanta Opera's history.

"It's heroic. It's tragic. It's regretful. It's intentional. It's everything all at once."

We took a walk with Lise Lindstrom along the Atlanta Beltline to talk about what it means to step into the role of Brünnhilde with The Atlanta Opera — and her answer is something every opera lover needs to hear.

122 performances as Siegfried — and Stefan Vinke still can't wait for the next one.

We stole a moment with our Siegfried during Twilight of the Gods to talk about what keeps this role endlessly compelling, and he shared something unexpected: the moment he's most looking forward to isn't one he sings at all.

"There is this unbelievable funeral march in the middle of Act 3 — to my taste, one of the two best pieces of music Wagner ever composed. Everyone is waiting for it. It is breathtaking."

Before you take your seat for Twilight of the Gods, make sure you've listened to this. Assistant Director Emma Grimsley breaks down the five things you need to know about Wagner's Götterdämmerung — from the genius of leitmotifs and the opera's daunting (and totally worth it) length, to why Brünnhilde is one of the most heroic characters in all of opera.

Whether you're a Ring Cycle devotee or a first-time Wagner listener, this is the perfect primer. Find the latest episode of the Atlanta Opera Podcast wherever you get your podcasts.

It is with deep sadness that The Atlanta Opera mourns the passing of Speight Jenkins — former General Director of Seattle Opera, a towering figure in American opera, and the mentor who shaped the career of our own General & Artistic Director, Tomer Zvulun.

As we celebrate The Twilight of the Gods — the final chapter of our Ring Cycle — Tomer shared these words:
"As we open the final chapter of the RING at The Atlanta Opera with Götterdämmerung, I wanted to pause and dedicate the Atlanta Ring to my mentor Speight Jenkins, who changed my life forever. I also know that I am not alone — so many were transformed by this man over his years of leadership at Seattle Opera. I love you, Speight."

We join the global opera community in celebrating his extraordinary life and the immeasurable impact he had on the art form, on the artists he mentored, and on the audiences he believed deserved access to the grandest experiences opera has to offer.

Our deepest condolences to his family, his colleagues, and all those whose lives he touched.

The latest episode of Blink Opera is here — and it's a fitting send-off to the season. Bass David Leigh, who sings the role of the scheming, calculating Hagen in Twilight of the Gods, takes us inside the story from where he stood. It's a perspective you won't want to miss.
