Our history does not begin with slavery.

That chapter matters. It must be taught truthfully. But it is not the beginning of the story.

At the The APEX Museum , our young leaders had an opportunity to explore Black history through the lens of identity, culture, achievement, resilience and contribution.

Because part of answering “Who am I?” is understanding the stories that came before you.

We want our students to know more than what happened to their ancestors. We want them to understand who they were, what they built, what they created, and what they contributed.

That changes how you see yourself—and what you believe you can create next.

What happens when the primary source is standing right in front of you? 🎤🌭

Last week, our young leaders took learning outside the studio and into Pittsburgh Yards® for another social experiment.

This time, they learned about primary sources—what they are, why they matter, and how to gather information directly from the people who actually experienced it.

Then they put it into practice.

Our students interviewed the team behind Carrot Dog :: Vegan Fast Food, a vegan hot dog pop-up, asking questions, listening to their story, and learning firsthand about their business and experience in the community.

The lesson wasn’t just about conducting an interview. It was about learning to ask good questions, listen closely, follow curiosity, and understand that some of the best sources of knowledge are the people right around us.

A huge thank you to Carrot Dog for letting our students practice, learn, and ask ALL the questions. 😂 We appreciate y’all being part of their learning experience!

And Atlanta—if you’re around Pittsburgh Yards, stop by Carrot Dog and grab a vegan hot dog for yourself. 🌭

The city is our classroom. And our neighbors have a lot to teach us.

WEEK ONE is in the books. 🚀 And THIS is what we mean by real-world learning.

Our young leaders didn’t spend the week only learning about community. They went into it.

As part of their first social impact project, they explored the difference between a community’s needs and its assets, talked about what it means to actually care for your neighbors, and then took those questions outside the studio.

They interviewed the owner of 404 Coffee Cafe and a neighborhood resident—listening, asking questions, and learning about the community from the people who are part of it.

And underneath it all was the driving question we’ll keep coming back to:

Who am I?
What was I made to create?
And how does my story become something the world needs?

Because before we ask young people to solve problems in a community, we want them to learn how to see it, listen to it, recognize what’s already there, and understand the people who call it home.

This was Week 1.

We’re just getting started. ❤️

Live2Create Leadership Academy is officially open in Atlanta’s historic Pittsburgh neighborhood, and as our founding cohort grows, we’re building the community around our young leaders too.

We’re looking for mentors, creatives, connectors, college students, professionals, organizers, community advocates, and people willing to open doors.

Maybe you can share a skill with our students.
Maybe you can give a few hours of your time.
Maybe you know a middle school family looking for something different.
Maybe you can connect us to a church, business, mentor, sponsor, or community partner.

You don’t have to know exactly where you fit yet. Bring what you have in your hands, and let’s see what we can build together.

DAY ONE. 🥹❤️

After all the planning, praying, building, pivoting, fundraising, conversations, late nights, and wondering what this day would actually feel like…

Our students showed up today.

And just like that, Live2Create Leadership Academy is officially in session. 🚀

Today was about getting comfortable in our new space, learning each other, beginning to build our rhythms and culture, and helping our founding students understand something really important:

They aren’t just attending Live2Create. They get to help build it.

There will be plenty of time for academics, projects, field experiences, leadership development, and everything else we have planned.

But today?

We started with community.

I’m so grateful for our founding families who took a chance on something new, our Lead Coach who jumped in ready to build, and every person who prayed, gave, volunteered, shared a post, made an introduction, or helped us get these doors open.

We made it to Day 1.

Now the real work—and the real fun—begins. ❤️

The ribbon is cut. Our Lead Coach is in the building. And now we’re getting ready to welcome our founding students!

But we still need our community. ❤️

WE CUT THE RIBBON. 🥹✂️🎉

I’m still taking it all in.

Yesterday, we celebrated the Grand Opening of Live2Create Leadership Academy, and I’m so grateful for the love, support, and energy that filled the room.

To everyone who showed up, prayed, called, texted, commented, or celebrated from afar—thank you.

This vision once lived in conversations, documents, and a lot of faith. Yesterday, it became real as we stood surrounded by family, friends, board members, partners, volunteers, and our founding families.

We didn’t get here alone.

Grateful to Blueprint 58 for becoming our first home, to the Atlanta Black Chambers for hosting our ribbon cutting, and to KaiPod Learning for 18 months of support that helped bring this vision to life.

Thank you to our team, board, volunteers, donors, partners, and everyone who believed in this from the beginning. And thank you, Becca Stanley for capturing it so beautifully. 📸❤️

One of the most meaningful moments was being prayed over and commissioned for this work—because this isn’t just a building opening, it’s a responsibility.

To serve families well.
To love this community well.
To develop young people well.
To lead with integrity.
And to keep God at the center.

And now, we get to do the work.

Our first day of school is August 31, and we are still welcoming founding middle school families. If you’ve been watching or wondering, now is the time to reach out.

We’re also continuing our Seed250 Campaign to support this founding year and expand scholarships. Our next goal is $30,000 by the end of August.

It’s time to cut the ribbon.

Join us for the Grand Opening + Ribbon Cutting of Live2Create Leadership Academy!

The Atlanta Black Chambers will join us for our official ribbon cutting, followed by a brief founder’s vision, community remarks, light refreshments, and a special prayer and commissioning over our Academy and founding students.

This moment is bigger than opening a building. It marks the beginning of a new learning community built around faith, leadership, creativity, purpose, and real-world learning.

And we want our community in the room to celebrate with us.
