Done ! 🎉

After injuring my left leg at the end of April and being told the recovery time was 6-8 weeks, I knew I needed something positive to focus on. Returning to this Udemy Art Therapy course was like coming home, since I love to make art and it’s usually a calming activity.

Ironically, I started this course a long time ago and got stuck on the self-portrait exercise. Suddenly, when given the choice between pouting and making art, drawing my nose didn’t seem like such a bad idea. Haha.

I’m so glad I was able to finally complete the last 25 videos and pass the time while my leg healed doing something productive (and fun).

I encourage anyone who’s hesitant to follow their dreams, to do so, even if takes longer than you thought or the path doesn’t look like what you planned. It will be worth it ! 💫

🐱 This was a multi-step, super messy project. 😳🤦🏻‍♀️ I dreaded starting it, but once we finally did… 😅😅 My kids had a blast.

Everything from homemade paper maiche materials, to painting, to gluing… they loved it. 🥄🎨

And then they got to tear it apart ! 🔨

I rarely let them have candy, so that was a treat, too.

The treat for mommy was being done with it. Lol 😭

And one step closer to my Udemy Art Therapy course being finished ! 🎉

🦁 In the (tiny) Jungle 🦁

Prompt #77 in my Udemy Art Therapy course involved making a head out of clay. 😳 Daunting. Lol

I chose to go for a sweet animal face and ended up with a bearish-looking lion. Maybe with a shower cap on ?? 🤔😅

Anyways, it was really fun to make and I enjoyed tinkering with a material I don’t usually craft with.

Art is great at keeping you humble and reminding you to have a sense of humor about things ! ☺️

🐶 Puppy Love 🐶

I made this fabric scene for my littlest daughter and she was so happy. She loves puppy dogs. ☺️

Video prompt #76 from my Udemy Art Therapy class, this was a fun challenge for me, since I’ve never really worked with fabric this way. 🪡 It was also super simple once I got to the glueing part. There were a ton of little steps before that, none of which I took a picture of, because I was so focused on getting it done. Lol 😅

Just know that drawing and tracing and cutting out little doggie parts is not easy. 😆 But totally worth it. 😊👍

🌈 Pictures of You 🌈

I surprised my daughters with these chalk scenes yesterday when they came home. ☺️ My youngest informed me that she did *not* want to lay on the ground. The eldest loved it. 💞

Art prompt #75 in my Udemy course involved using chalk on string and then snapping it to create some kind of spray of color ? 🤔💨 I opted to do something a little different and create a whole new world for my kiddos to visit. ☺️💡

Art can be so fun and remind us how flexible and good at problem-solving we can be. How has art helped you ? 😍

🐾 Tiger Cuteness 🐾

Watch out, there’s a dangerous animal in our midst ! 👀😮 👉 Oh, wait, no. It’s a super cute furball. 🤭

🐯 This tiger drawing prompt was another face painting exercise, which I gently passed on, and decided to create my own doodle instead.

🖊️😃 I am always surprised by what comes out of these Udemy Art Therapy classes. I am grateful for “stretching” my brain and the opportunity to learn new artistic techniques.

My kiddos are equally amused by these creations and can’t wait to do the next chalk one together. ☺️💞

🎪 Circus Life 🎪

For this Art Therapy course prompt, the assignment was to try clown face paint on ourselves. I passed on that. 👀🤭

And instead, drew this cutie clown sketch with marker and pencil.

I love how art can you take you into this playful side that you may not normally get to visit. 🤸🏻

Thanks Udemy for this awesome class ! I have just a few more videos left before its completion. 🤗🎓

🌀 Inner-child Embrace 🌀

For this exercise, the instructor encouraged us to reflect on our childhood self, a moment when we felt most creative or most inventive, and bring that to the drawing. 📝

Since I often access my creativity as a choreographer and poet, this was not hard for me. But I challenged myself to think quickly and not judge as I swiped colors and outlined shapes on the page. 🖊️

The image is of my younger, playful self being embraced by a calmer, loving, current self. Much like I hold my children now. 💞

This is video prompt #71 in my Udemy Art Therapy course—which I will have completed in the next week ! So excited !! 😃🎉

🧽 So dusty. 🖤🤍

Here is my classic still life drawing for video prompt #68 in my Udemy Art Therapy course.

This is the first time I have ever drawn with chalk on paper. The shadows and light spots were interesting to notice and I liked smudging the powder with my fingers to create different grays. 💨

I started with a photo of this little succulent in my kitchen to help see the image more “flat” and then added a black and white filter. 📸

I love to draw with chalk outside with my kiddos, and this was definitely interesting to do ! 🤗
