Dear family and friends of MGA,
We are beginning a new class tomorrow and I wish to share some information concerning the structure of the upcoming classes and the immediate future of MGA.
As far back as 1993, MGA was a commercial production company with offices in Los Angeles, New York, and Amsterdam. It grew from there and shared affiliate offices throughout the world. A few years after the unfortunate actor's strike of 2007, I decided to re-direct my directing career to focus on feature films.
Seven years ago, to much fanfare, MGA was rebirthed as MGA, Acting & Film Institute. While I had previously been coaching actors for decades in Los Angeles, I had never run my own school. I saw this endeavour as an opportunity to experiment and develop some of my theories that involved combining the two complementary disciplines of Method Acting and Hypnosis.
The experiment has been a success both to our students and myself. I have witnessed an encouraging metamorphosis in actors at MGA, not once, but many times over. As the result, I have observed inspirations of benevolent muses and hauntings of personal daemons coaxed and welcomed into the minds of students, affecting their scenes with life-changing professional and personal growth. Many got much from the experience. For that, I am truly grateful.
That said, I feel the wind a changing. Due to the circumstances presented to us by forces unknown and all that came tucked under dark coattails of the current pandemic, I feel the need to submit to the ages a few stories that might help define this moment. My hopes include inviting some of you along on this journey.
So, here is where I'd like to leave my old friend, MGA — for now. Over the course of the next two months, I am going to present two acting classes and two workshops. The acting classes will likely be the most challenging 12 weeks you may ever know. I plan on putting as much of my own study, knowledge, and experience into those 12 weeks as possible. We will be combining the work from Foundation Class, Scene Study, and the Studio (Deep Character identification) into those two classes. It will be powerful. The two workshops will be The Audition Intensive and The Business of the Business.
From time to time, MGA will reappear and I hope to see you there. But this deep dive into what has become the core of our mission, will not return.
These classes will be on Saturdays beginning tomorrow at 1 PM EST (6 PM GMT, 7 PM CET). Classes will be 3 hours — maybe more. The total price of these two classes and two workshops is only $129 per month. This will take two months.
There are only a few seats left. We start tomorrow. Go to MGAFILM.ORG and choose the three-month plan (we will only charge you for two months).
Thank you for all you have done to make this venture a success. Come add to your actor's toolbox with career-defining experience to last a lifetime.
Let's go!
