Come see a brand-spankin’ new musical this weekend! Featuring live music from Midtown Orchestra and the culmination of a semester of work from the Musical Theatre Production class, Ranked is the story of a dystopian high school where your school rank means everything. Now the subject of a new HBO documentary, this musical brings to light some of the anxiety and struggles of high school students today.

We had the luck and privilege a couple of weeks ago to perform the premiere of the One-Act version of “Ranked,” a new musical by Kyle Holmes and David Taylor Gomes. We will be performing the full show MLK weekend,
January 12, 13, 14. (www.midtowndrama.com for ticket info)

What’s really cool is that the show is now the subject of an excellent documentary on HBO, which also chronicles some of the struggles high school students had during the pandemic. The documentary is scored almost exclusively by the music from the show.

Midtown has made history! Last Saturday, the fall One-Act play, ”Our Place,” placed second in the state 5AAAAA One Act competition, beating our previous best of 4th place in 2015. Miniya Koté and Lizzie Lyman both received All-State cast awards.
We won the region three weeks before, with Wesley Stewart and Arden Dalia earning All-Region cast awards and Lizzie Lyman winning best actress in the region.
