The Underground Railroad didn’t only lead north. MEXODUS explores the lesser-known history of enslaved people who crossed the Rio Grande seeking freedom in Mexico.

Music is built live onstage, blending hip-hop, jazz, musical theatre, ranchera influences and more.

Live-loop triggers are built throughout the playing space, allowing the performers to create and manipulate music as they move through the story.

Following an acclaimed Off-Broadway run, MEXODUS arrives in Atlanta as the winner of four Lucille Lortel Awards, including Outstanding Musical.

At its center is a story about two people learning to trust one another—and how something as seemingly small as choosing to help another person can matter.

This season, alongside Theatrical Outfit, Actor's Express and Kenny Leon's True Colors Theatre Company, we're bringing stories to the stage that explore the richness, complexity, and diversity of Black experiences.

August Wilson's FENCES, Tarrell Alvin McCraney's CHOIR BOY, and Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' PURPOSE are all in conversation across Atlanta stages, creating a powerful moment for audiences and artists alike.

Join us on Tuesday, September 1 for a conversation with directors Addae Moon, Keith Arthur Bolden, Jamil Jude and Amanda Washington as they discuss the artistry, impact, and relevance of these works in Atlanta today.

During our 2025/2026 season, the Artist Childcare Program provided 7,156 hours of free childcare to 34 artists and supported 50 children.

Without the Artist Childcare Program, these artists would have collectively spent nearly $179,000 on childcare costs, creating yet another barrier to participating fully in their artistic work.

By investing in artists and their families, the Artist Childcare Program helps remove obstacles that too often limit who can create, perform, and thrive. When artists have the support they need, their work flourishes, communities grow stronger, and the arts become more equitable for everyone.
