Atlanta might be about to get a lot busier 👀

Georgia already gives productions up to 30% back. If the proposed 20% federal film tax credit goes through, those incentives could stack, and in places like Savannah local incentives could stack on top of that.

Jesse thinks the Southeast would feel the impact within six to twelve months, and you can already sense things picking up around Atlanta, Nashville, and North Carolina 🎉

More productions means more auditions. The actors who benefit most will be the ones who use this stretch to sharpen their reads, tighten their self-tape setup, and update their materials before the wave hits.

A $150 vertical did more for Candace than a $300 acting class 💸

This project wasn’t glamorous. But actors spend money on classes every month just to get ready for set. If you get the chance to actually be on one, you come home with footage and real experience working with a crew. Check out the project before you say yes. Whatever money you might “lose” is money was going to a class this month anyway, so it’s worth asking which one gets you further.

Casting shouldn’t have to guess where your clips came from 👀

Most demo reels jump from one scene to the next with no context. Casting directors have told us that when they don’t know what they’re watching, they spend time trying to place it (“Do I know this? What show is this?”) and stop paying attention to you.

Label every clip. Put the network and the show title on it, matched to the show’s colors and look.

For indie projects or short films, open Canva and design a clean title logo. It takes about 20 minutes, and the clip will look like it came from a real production.

How do you self-tape a wrestling scene with nobody to wrestle? 🤼‍♀️

The breakdown said the character needed to look athletic, and the scene had her fighting another girl the whole way through. Wrestling the air while standing up looked fake, so Candace took the fight to the floor.

Jesse spent years hearing the same headshot advice: get one strong, polished shot and stick with it. He landed his first audition from a new casting director and booked a recurring guest star role on Mayor of Kingstown by ignoring it 🔥

One editorial headshot might look great, but it can’t cover every role you’re right for. If Jesse had submitted a single polished shot for that part, he’s not getting that audition. Range in your headshots means range in the auditions you’re seen for.
