SAG has rules on audition turnarounds….but the reality is often times different 👀

Jesse’s take is blunt: getting worked up over the timeline doesn’t get you booked. Getting your tape in does. Productions move at their own speed, rule or no rule, and the actors who stay ready are the ones who keep working.

On this episode of That Actor Couple, Jesse and Candace break down whether actors actually follow the 48 hour self-tape rule, walk through the 10 auditions they knocked out this week, and get honest about the one skill Candace still hasn’t fully cracked: crying on camera.

Self-tapes disappearing into silence. A package that feels thinner than everyone else’s in the room. Blanking the second the camera starts rolling. 😩

If any of that sounds familiar, the Virtual Actor’s Summit is the room you need to be in:

This year’s Virtual Actors Summit breaks into three types of sessions: industry panels where working casting directors break down what’s actually shifting in the Southeast market, hands-on workshops where casting directors and agents review actor packages and give live notes, and specialty sessions built around craft, like locking in lines faster and working through the nerves that show up before you even say action.

15+ industry pros. 3 days. 20+ hours of momentum building content.

Our actors keep getting signed and just can’t stop winning!🎬

Landing an agent isn’t a stroke of luck. It’s the payoff of training consistently, treating this like a business, and being ready when the opportunity actually shows up.

Huge shoutout to our Working Actor Mentors - Judd, Angela, Tatiana, Rico, Austin, and Charlene - they’re always helping this community turn training into results like these.

And a special nod to our own mentor Charles Green, who just signed with Fairbanks & Rowe and DGRW himself. Proof that this business never stops moving, no matter how many credits you’ve got.

Consistency, training, and proximity to the right people. That’s the formula, and this crew just proved it again.

In the depths of the agent search but not seeing any movement? Hard to fix what’s not working when nobody’s told you 👀

This round of agent workshops close that gap. You get a fresh look at your materials, and agents who evaluate submissions for a living tell you exactly what’s working and what’s not.
That’s information most actors spend months guessing at on their own.

One day on set can equal a whole year’s salary 🤯 And that is at the magic of commercials!

Every set is a job interview, whether it’s union, nonunion, a one-liner, or a lead. The actors who show up and do the work anyway are the ones who get called back, and even on the smallest job, you’re getting paid to learn how to work on set and watch other working actors do their magic.

On this week’s episode of Get Scene Unscripted, Annette Stilwell, founder of Stilwell Casting and a commercial and film casting director in the Southeast since 1980, sits down with host Jesse Malinowski to break down how the commercial booking process actually works, why five different people have to say yes before you get the job, and what “first refusal” really means legally.

Candace has an audition prep secret that has nothing to do with her resume 👀

Have you ever heard of audition b***s? 🤔Making a bold, specific choice for a role starts before you even walk into the room, wardrobe included.

On this episode of That Actor Couple, Jesse and Candace break down a week of 4+ auditions each, including Jesse’s audition for the new Kevin Hart film, the launch of his live TV show broadcasting to over 600 rooms at Children’s Hospital of Atlanta, and the on-set note that took him half a day to crack.

Before you fire off that “we’re done” email to your agent, check the data first 📊

It’s easy to want out when something doesn’t feel right. But feelings aren’t strategy. Pull your actual numbers: how many times has a specific casting director seen you, how many commercial auditions have you gotten, how many auditions came from you versus how many came from your agent (this is why tracking your auditions is helpful 👀).

Your job isn’t just showing up. It’s knowing that data and cultivating the relationships that help your agent get you in front of the right rooms.
Feelings matter. We’re actors, we’re human, we have off weeks. But before you walk away, look at the average, not the bad week!

Finishing the Summer strong 💪 Our upcoming casting and agent workshops are absolutely stacked!

We’ve got agents and casting from NYC to ATL and in between and even another agent showcase coming this September.

Every session is a chance to sharpen your read, ask the questions you can’t Google, and see exactly how you stack up in a real room. That’s the kind of information most actors never get.

Swipe through to see what’s coming up, then head to the link in our bio to grab your spot.

How have you been leveling up your acting career this summer? 🤔

Actors spend years chasing representation, convinced an agent is the thing that will finally make it happen 👀

Tucker Stampen, an NYC agent at DGRW Talent, says that mindset can backfire: bad representation costs you more than having none at all.

Tucker breaks down what bad representation actually looks like: reps who aren’t communicative, don’t have real relationships with casting directors, and aren’t good negotiators. An offer of representation isn’t automatically a good one. If your gut is telling you something’s off before you even sign, listen to it.

On this week’s episode of Get Scene Unscripted, Tucker Stampen sits down with host Jesse Malinowski to talk about agent-client dynamics, costar versus guest star strategy, and how a boutique New York agency actually decides who gets signed.
