Your film can be great and still struggle to find its audience.
One of the biggest mistakes filmmakers make is treating marketing as something that starts when the film is finished.
But film marketing is a journey. From building anticipation before the premiere, to keeping momentum after it, to making sure your film reaches people beyond a single platform.
The goal isn’t just to get people into the premiere. It’s to keep the conversation going long after the lights come up.
Swipe through for 3 common marketing mistakes we see filmmakers make and tell us,
Which one have you seen happen, to your own film or someone else’s? 👇🏾

Every memory is a clue, or a curse. That’s the line LIGHTS OUT opens on. This September, it’s also
the truest thing we can say about World Alzheimer’s Month.

A story about a man whose grip on memory is slipping, and the people trying to hold onto him anyway.
On World Alzheimer’s Day, we’re marking why this story needed telling in the first place. Watch the trailer, link in bio.

So, while you were scrolling, two amazing Cameroonian filmmakers dropped new work. Here’s what you missed.
Stephanie Sparks Tumbleson has built her own platform, Stephanie Tum TV, specifically to put African cinema in front of
a global audience instead of waiting for someone else to do it. Her catalogue keeps growing, and her
latest release “Hidden Pages” is proof she’s not slowing down.

CARO aka Caro owns a production house, ML Production237, and is quietly building a catalogue from the South West region outward. Her newest release “The Witch of Kombo” continues that momentum. Go watch, comment, and show them the numbers matter.

Most filmmakers design their poster before they’ve decided who’s supposed to see it. That’s
backwards, and it’s the single most common reason a good film opens to an empty room.

A poster is a marketing asset. It’s not a marketing strategy. Before any visual gets designed, the real
questions are: who is this film for, where do they already spend their time, and what’s the story we’re
telling them for six weeks before they ever see a ticket booth? Skip that groundwork and even the
most beautiful poster is just decoration on a plan that doesn’t exist.
If you’re planning a release, what’s the first marketing question you should be
asking, before a single graphic gets made? Let’s build the list together in the comments

“I have seen how memory loss can change not only an individual, but the entire fabric of a family. LIGHTS OUT was made to approach that reality with compassion instead of stigma. If this resonates with your family’s story, we want you to know that we see you.” — Carista Asonganyi, Producer and Executive Producer, Lights Out.

Some minds hold onto the truth long after everyone else has stopped believing it.
Lucas hasn’t stopped searching for his daughter. The world around him thinks he has.
LIGHTS OUT, a story about memory, love, and how far the truth can be buried before it’s lost for good.
