This week we watched Guerilla News Network's MOST DANGEROUS GAME and deconstructed psychological warfare history and tactics including the use of sound and music to "disrupt thinking patterns." We discussed how to use music as a tool and the importance of protecting yourself from psychological warfare in the media. Students also finished their presentations about their musical interests.

This week the students shared their musical interests with each other. We have very diverse musical tastes in our class. Students like Hip-Hop, Pop, Rock, Soul, Metal, Punk Rock, and Soul to name a few. Artists ranged from Hendrix to Paramore to Masekela to Black Star to Drake to Metallica! I was happy that most were respectful of musical tastes that differed from their own. An open mind will be important this year!

We also began a longer disscussion on how music can be used as a pathway to inner peace. Many students are already using music in a positive way in their lives. Students say they use music to help them study, relax, express themselves, and send/receive messages. Next we'll learn how to be even more strategic and more aware of how music affects us.

this week @ Black Star Educational Institute:

This week we discussed the physical properties of sound. We learned why and how we hear everything we hear. Then, we set it off with a hype Jam Session complete with guitars (acoustic & electric), keyboards, shekeres, djembe drums, and lots of other instruments. We learned a lot and had even more fun!!!
