Open Mic Pro - ‘Tips and Tricks’ - Volume One - ‘Mixer Placement’
If you play-out, like I do, you probably place the mixer directly behind you, to allow for easy access from the stage. For years, I would do the same thing when setting up my open mic. I always played first, so I would naturally need to adjust the sound while on stage.
The problem with this placement is that every time I needed to adjust the sound for a new performer, I’d have to enter the stage from the side and go behind the performer. As you know, some performers can get pretty nervous when you go behind them during their performance.
One day, a friend suggested that I place the mixer on the side of the stage. Brilliant!! It instantly solved the poor access issue and I no longer had to jump on stage and disturb the musicians.
Today, I use the EV Evolve 30M PA and it has an app for the mixer. I just adjust everything from my seat on my phone.
Cheers,
