When we planned our Houston sessions, we knew that we wanted something that said “Texas” but still had a bit of culture as well. We decided on a Juneteenth theme since Texas was the birthplace of Juneteenth. Even though they may not understand it right now, we wanted them to have this connection to culture. Our kids are growing up in an era where their connection to their history is more important than ever. It’s on us to make sure they have that foundation. Oh and if you’re wondering about the book, “Black Freedom” by Blair LM Kelley is a fantastic addition to the coffee table if you’re interested in learning more about the history of Juneteenth.
