ABOUT CLARENCE: This fast-paced farce has elements of love, magic and intrigue that will keep you guessing while tapping your feet and snapping your fingers to music, including the rhythms of tribal dancing.

It's the story of a woman eager to win the love and respect of her daughter after losing it through years of struggle with alcoholism. It's about a man who just wants to do right by his woman. And it's about a young artist who seeks love and acceptance through the discovery of his talent. Finally, it's About Clarence.

Director Carol Welter was trained in classical theatre at the Shakespearean Conservatory in the UK. She is the founder of UUCA's monthly event "Wine, Cheese & The Spoken Word" and has directed several plays in the Underground Theatre and elsewhere in the South.

OCTOBER 14 IN UUCA'S UNDERGROUND THEATRE: A NIGHT OF VONNEGUT

The Underground Theatre at UUCA will present A Night of Vonnegut, a staged reading of the works of Kurt Vonnegut, featuring short stories from his posthumously published "Armageddon In Retrospect." One of the most acclaimed American writers of the 20th Century, Vonnegut was a prisoner of war during WWII and witnessed first hand the aftermath of the Allied bombing of Dresden.

In this collection of short stories, he writes of the absurdity and horror of war with a sense of moral outrage and dark humor. The readings, directed by UUCA member Liz Bigler, will be performed by a small collection of local actors.

Doors open at 7:00 pm; performance 7:30-10pm. Suggested admission donation is $10, but no one will be turned away. Donations go to support UUCA. There will be a raffle of merchandise from the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library during intermission, and proceeds will benefit the ACLU, of which
Vonnegut was a passionate supporter. Refreshments will be available. Please

Auditions for the play "Swamp Lily" will be held in the Underground Theatre on TONIGHT, Feb. 6 at 6:30pm.

The Play is an original work addressing World War II, family secrets and how love transcends.

Needed for the production are Actors ages 16 through 30 plus years. Guys and Girls. Dancing ability would be an asset.

The show will open for one weekend to begin March 31st for three performances.
